**JOB DESCRIPTION**
**POST**:Youth worker
**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Project Manager
**HOURS**:4pm-10pm, 3 evenings per week Wednesday - Friday (flexibility is expected to suit the needs of the project and young people)
**ORGANISATIONAL AIMS**:
1. To initiate, build and maintain purposeful relationships with young people
2. Encourage young people to broaden their horizons to be effective citizens
3. To support young people in their understanding of risk and challenge
4. Support young people to identify and achieve aims so that they may reach their full potential

**JOB PURPOSE**:
To plan and deliver youth activities in collaboration with the young people and youth work team.
**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:
a) To plan and deliver a creative and progressive programme of youth activities in collaboration with young people and the youth & community team, which is responsive to young people and local needs.
b) To actively support the youth forum which provide young people attending our universal/open access provisions a voice on issues that affect them
c) To review services and paperwork regularly in partnership with staff, young people and any other stakeholders to identify any areas of improvement
d) To contribute to new developments and collate young peoples and service outcomes regarding contractual requirements.
e) To ensure young people’s views and opinions are considered for the development of a co-productive model of our youth services
f) To work in partnership with all relevant youth work agencies, voluntary and statutory services to improve outcomes for young people.
g) Use social media and new technology to ensure young people feel connected and develop a web
- presence to reach out to young people
**To carry out other duties that reasonably falls within the scope of the post. Specific responsibilities**:
a) Responding to emergencies / crisis.
b) Attendance at meetings deemed appropriate by the project managers
d) Participation in training and supervision.
e) You must work constructively with other departments within the YMCA Cardiff Group.
f) Assisting with jobs that usually fall to another member of staff, but in whose absence, failure to carry out the work would present a risk or offence to others or would be detrimental to the organisation’s service provision.
g) To be able to respect the Christian ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values
**PERSON SPECIFICATION**
**Youth Worker**
**Essential**
- Recognised JNC qualification in the field of Youth & Community Work
- Experience working with young people in youth work settings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good negotiating skills.
- Ability to manage difficult situations / crisis.
- Ability to manage conflict and change.
- Have a collaborative and flexible approach to work
- Positive approach to change / innovation
- Commitment to co-operative working and able to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Professional approach to confidentiality, boundaries and anti-discriminatory practice.
- Be able to demonstrate our values of respect, empathy and equality in daily work
**Desirable**
- Level 2 Safeguarding / Child Protection
- Full, clean driving license
- Ability to speak Welsh
**Job Type**: Part-time
