**About the Role**:
Loughton Health Centre is pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for an experienced medical secretary to join their busy, existing team on a full-time basis.
With the increasing use of technology in general practice, medical secretaries are playing an increasingly important role in managing patient information and ensuring that healthcare providers have access to the data they need to deliver high-quality care.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- Processing NHS referrals using the electronic referral system (ERS).
- Preparing private referral letters.
- Maintaining an accurate referrals database.
- Liaising with external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuring referrals are processed efficiently.
- Inputting data into the patient’s healthcare records as necessary.
- Answering incoming phone calls related to referrals, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately.
- Maintaining patient and staff confidentiality in accordance with data protection legislation and information governance guidelines.
- Updating EMIS clinical system.
- Secretarial experience - audio
- and touch-typing skills.
- Coding/summarising would be advantageous.
- Strong administrative experience and good organisation skills.
- Excellent general IT skills including MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality and data security, at all times.
- Ability to multi-task and to work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.

Loughton Health Centre is a busy 4 partner teaching practice located in the centre of Loughton with a list size of approx. 10,500 patients.
