Operating on a rotational basis within the Centre at QMH, this is a supportive role combining both a front of house reception and administration function and assigned tasks as part of the clinical teams. Working alongside registered nurses and therapeutic radiographers within the chemotherapy and radiotherapy service areas, you will work without direct supervision to undertake aspects of patient care provision. Ensuring that the patient is at the heart of the services we provide you will be working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
To undertake venepuncture/cannulation and wound care management and dressings when requested by healthcare professionals
Provide a welcoming and efficient reception service and to put patients at their ease
Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge/ Therapeutic Radiographer
Under the direction of the Healthcare Professional participate in the assessment, admission, discharge and handover of patients
Establish and maintain communication with people on routine and operational matters.
Assist in the organisation and running of the centre by undertaking housekeeping and clerical/ administration duties as appropriate
Assisting the clinical staff with admissions and discharge procedures and ensuring that follow up appointments are organised
Maintain stock in treatment/pharmacy rooms and collect from storage when stocks are low and re-order when required
Guy’s Cancer at Queen Mary’s Hospital (QMH), Sidcup has been open for 5 years. We are seeking exceptional individuals to join our flexible and dynamic team. Guy’s Cancer at Queen Mary’s Hospital provides chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment to the local patient population of outer South East London. Patient information and support will be provided for by the Dimbleby-Macmillan information service.

Clinical Duties
- Provide excellent customer care skills to ensure patients come first.
- Undertakes a range of delegated clinical care duties to deliver agreed plans of care, acting on own initiative.
- To ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
- Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
- To act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
- Provides support and assistance to professionals in the implementation of plans of care for individual patients, including providing patients with simple advice regarding their care.
- Assist with fluid and dietary needs of patients including completion of menu cards and recording intake and output of fluids and solids.
- As directed to collect specimens from patients e.g. bloods and to record routine observations of weight and height, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate. Report any abnormalities and concerns to a Registered Nurse/Therapeutic Radiographer.
- Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to nurse in charge/ Therapeutic Radiographer
- To undertake venepuncture/cannulation and wound care management and dressings when requested by healthcare professionals
- To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receives appropriate care
- To assist the Registered Nurse/Radiographer with the safe handling and mobilisation of patients and when necessary to assist in the transportation of patients.
- To chaperone patients to other clinical departments, following assessment by a Registered Nurse/Radiographer to maintain patient safety
- Under the direction of the Healthcare Professional participate in the assessment, admission, discharge and handover of patients
- Provide reassurance, support to patients, carers and family
- Ensure own actions help to maintain quality
- To respond to patient requests for non-clinical information to improve communication.
- Establish and maintain communication with people on routine and operational matters
- To act always in a manner which, promotes positive working relationships and maintains the professional image of the Trust
- Understand and adhere to all Trust policies, guidelines and procedures in particular, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Waste Management and Resuscitation policies to maintain a safe working environment for patients and staff.
