Dog Grooming Apprentice

The Hound Hut is a very busy dog grooming salon based in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. We have been open for 4 years now and have an excellent client base. The shop opened in 2021 and has enabled us to serve more customers and expand into a retail area for the business. In this time, we have built up a loyal customer base which we pride ourselves on delivering a quality service for. Anyone joining the team would need to provide the same love and kindness to our animals to ensure this reputation continues. Our reputation is very important to us, and we will not compromise on the quality of services provided from within the premises.

We are looking for a keen person to join us on the start of their dog grooming journey. Someone who has confidence around animals, some form of experience handling animals and an ability to handle all breeds of dogs, large or small. Dog grooming is at times physically demanding and requires patience. You will be dealing with animals of all different sizes, types, and temperaments.

We currently have one full-time dog groomer and one part-time groomer operating from the premises. The salon is currently equipped with 3 grooming tables, a bath, reception area with shop (raw food, pet treats) for welcoming clients, toilet facilities

The position is a dog grooming apprentice reporting directly to the salon owner and working closely with all involved. Full training is included, with a day at Derby College each week who will assist delivering the apprenticeship. It is therefore imperative that you can travel to both the salon in Wirksworth and Derby College, Broomfield Hall Campus, Derby.

The duties include:

- Preparing dogs for bathing.
- Bathing and drying dogs.
- Preparing clean dogs.
- Daily cleaning duties.
- Assisting groomer.
- Customer care.
- Taking payments.
- Reception and shop duties.

Hours/Days:
Must be flexible and available to work Saturday. Hours and days may vary each week and can be up to 6 days, 8 hours a day. Minimum of 30 hours per week including training.

Suitable travel arrangements to the shop and college (Broomfield Campus) are essential.
