Newham, United Kingdom Ribbons & Reeves Full time

SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary School - Newham - ASAP Start
Are you passionate about supporting primary-aged students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
Do you want to make a lasting impact in the lives of young learners facing emotional and behavioural challenges?
We have an exciting opportunity for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Newham, East London, starting ASAP.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in helping primary students with emotional and behavioural challenges to thrive both academically and socially. You will support children who may struggle with emotional regulation, social skills, and mental health issues, helping them manage their emotions and behaviours in a school setting.
You will work with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, providing tailored support that helps them feel safe, understood, and able to engage in learning. Your role will involve adapting the curriculum to meet the specific needs of these children, working closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to ensure students can fully participate in lessons and activities.
In addition to academic support, you will assist with behaviour management, helping students develop coping strategies and positive behaviours. You will contribute to creating a calm, nurturing classroom environment where students feel confident and supported. Your role will also involve promoting social skills and helping students build relationships with their peers.
You will be an integral part of a dedicated team, working collaboratively to ensure that each child’s development is carefully monitored and supported. Regular feedback and discussions with the SENCO and other staff will help you track student progress and tailor your approach accordingly.
To thrive in this SEMH Teaching Assistant role, you should have a passion for working with primary-aged students with emotional and behavioural needs. Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to individual needs are essential. Previous experience working with SEMH students is desirable but not essential, making this an excellent opportunity for graduates or those looking to start a career in education.
The school offers excellent professional development, including specialised SEMH training, as well as opportunities for career progression. This is a perfect role for anyone looking to gain invaluable experience in primary education, particularly those with an interest in special educational needs.
Located in the vibrant and diverse borough of Newham, the school is well-connected with excellent transport links to Central London. It is a school that values inclusivity, collaboration, and the holistic development of every child.
If you’re enthusiastic about making a difference in the lives of primary students with SEMH needs and supporting their journey to succeed both emotionally and academically, we would love to hear from you.
