Senior Staff Nurse Paediatrics

An exciting opportunity of a band 6 post has become available on Disney ward at Scunthorpe General Hospital, for an enthusiastic and experience paediatric nurse..
You will be responsible for the day-to-day running and safety of the ward, working closely alongside the ward manager and deputy. This will include allocation of nursing staff to care for the children on the ward, acting as a role model for junior colleagues, being a resource for other staff and creating a ward environment of open and honest communication, where we display kindness and respect of each other. You will be responsible for the daily safety checks and for the initial escalation of safety concerns: staff shortfall, increasing dependency and acuity demands.
You will need an expert knowledge and competence assessing and caring for children with both chronic and acute illness, children coming to the ward for elective surgery and other planned procedures. You will also need to be competent caring for a critically ill child and knowledge of children's safeguarding. Excellent communication skills with children, their families and colleagues are essential.
The post is permanent for 37.5 hrs a week and will mean working 11.5hour shifts on a rotational basis both days and nights.
