Do you want to be part of a project that will redefine the agenda of just transitions in China, the world’s leading emitter of greenhouse gas emissions? Far-reaching climate action inevitably creates uneven social impacts, which means that the climate crisis cannot be addressed without considering justice implications. This project will examine how just transitions - a concept that places well-being and justice at the heart of climate interventions - can be delivered in the context of environmental politics in China.
The PDRA position requires a set of highly specialized skills in qualitative social science and/or humanities research. Working both independently and as part of the PLURALIZE team, the PDRA will deliver a set of tasks integral to the project: 1) conducting a systematic literature review on Chinese humanities and philosophy scholarship on environmental justice; 2) co-leading a workshop on environmental justice with colleagues in China; 3) designing and implementing interview-based data collection in China. There will be scope for the PDRA to develop academic publications, attend conferences to present results, and deliver impact activities through collaboration with policy partners). The PDRA will be based in Sheffield but the position requires capacity to travel to China.
