Education Lawyer Locum Full-time 3 month rolling contract London £40-£55 per hour umbrella co. Are you a skilled education lawyer looking for a locum position within a well-respected London local authority? Our client is looking for an education lawyer,ideally with experience of working in local authority to join their welcoming and hardworking team on a locum basis. The contract is an initial 3 months with the likelihood to extend. The role is fully remote, but you can attend the office if you desire, thereforeoffering a great work/life balance. The successful education Lawyer will have an in-depth knowledge of the law in relation to education advice and policy and Special Educational Needs (SEN) tribunal work. You must also have a practical understanding of localgovernment law. Key Responsibilities:

- Carry out research and provide legal advice, negotiate and agree on instructions from the client department, draft, prepare and process legal agreements and documents, and all other necessary and appropriate documentationassociated with matters in the area of Education Law.
- Provide legal support to the Council to enable and facilitate the provision of high quality legal service.
- Represent the Local Authority at SEN Appeal Tribunals, Clerking at School Admissions AppealHearings, advise on Pre Action matters, and Judicial Review matters relating to Education Law.
- Advise on the appropriateness and specificity of EHC Plans, advice on policy, procedure and law relating to SEN issues.
- Provide legal advice in relation to andprepare formal Legal Implications for reports, to relevant committees, panels, working parties and other meetings as required.
- Amending / drafting statements and EHC Plans.
- Provide expert advice and make decisions on Education Law matters and on the managementof risk on complex and contentious legal issues
- Negotiating and drafting highly complex and sensitive agreements and documents in the area of Education Law
- Advocacy in all relevant court and tribunal cases including contested Final Hearings.
- To notifyand advise the Principal Lawyer of any instructions or events that would result in a breach by the Council or an individual of any legislation, common law, standing order or rule or propriety or would constitute a course of action amounting to maladministration.Required skills:

- You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive who is entitled to practice prior to taking up the appointment.
- Previous local government experience is desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrable ability and aptitude foradvocacy is essential together with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- It is essential that you possess good communication skills and have the ability to work effectively as part of a busy and committed team.
