**You will also be the Chief Risk Officer Senior Management Function holder (SMF4) and Compliance Oversight Function holder (SMF16) for HSL.**

**The role**

As our new London Market (LM) & Hiscox Syndicate Limited (HSL) Chief Risk Officer will have leadership responsibility for the combined Risk and Compliance function of Hiscox London Market and Hiscox Re & ILS business units.

You'll lead all aspects of risk management including performance of HSL’s Own Risk & Self-Assessment (ORSA) and embedding a risk culture across the two business units, managing a small but expert team of risk and regulatory compliance professionals. You will have oversight of the implementation of Hiscox’s Risk Management Framework, which includes risk appetites, emerging risks, incident capture and analysis, and Enterprise Risk Management reporting within a three-lines of defence model. In addition, you will oversee various economic capital model validation activities, aggregate ORSA Stress & Scenario Testing and proposing risk limits for board approval where appropriate for the business, leaning on a centralised team of risk actuarial experts to support this undertaking.

From inception, you will build on foundational work to ensure Hiscox LM and HSL can identify, assess, monitor, report and mitigate significant competitive, regulatory, financial, operational and reputational threats to the company’s capital while enabling opportunities for growth. You will act as a key business partner to the LM and HSL Leadership Team, accelerating the business’ risk views, shaping its risk approach and proactively developing and improving its risk culture. In this, you will communicate effectively with key stakeholders to provide real time second line strategic advice and an alternate lens, acting as a critical advisor of the business. To support your responsibilities for the Re & ILS business unit, you will have a designated senior risk manager who will work closely with the Re & ILS leadership team.

You will be solutions oriented, with the creative and impact-focused mindset to ensure that problems are approached and solved in new ways. This dynamic and high-profile role requires a diverse set of hands-on leadership and relationship building capabilities. The LM & HSL Chief Risk Officer will report into Group Chief Risk Officer, and will sit as a member of the Group Risk & Compliance Leadership Team. You will also have a dotted line into the LM CEO and will sit as a member of the LM Leadership Team and HSL Management Team. You will work collaboratively with the central Group Risk & Compliance team, and have frequent exposure to key business unit and Group stakeholders, including non-executive directors and senior management.

Senior Management Function (SMF)**: You will hold the UK SMF4 Chief Risk Officer role and also the SMF 16 (Compliance) role for Hiscox Syndicate Limited (Lloyd’s Managing Agency).
- ** Develop and Deliver the LM & Re Risk & Compliance Team Annual Plan**: Own, drive and continuously seek to improve risk management and compliance reporting processes. Manage and timely delivery of risk deliverables across the business unit. Manage the Risk and Compliance team and delegate work effectively, looking beyond the current needs to develop a strategic, forward looking agenda for risk management and compliance.
- ** Risk Culture**: Foster a positive culture of confident and informed risk-taking through training, communication and promotion of the agreed risk framework. You’ll promote a culture that prioritises good customer and regulatory outcomes.
- ** Manage Stakeholder Engagement**:Manage key stakeholders relationships at function, business unit, executive and board level. Be a knowledgeable, trusted and respected expert that senior stakeholders in the business seek out for guidance and an independent view.
- ** Understand the Business Risk Profile**:Have a strong knowledge of the business, market developments and regulatory requirements. Assess current and emerging risks and work with the business closely for proactive response and management.
- ** Maintain and enhance the Risk Management Framework**: Work with the business to embed a robust framework for risk control that is owned and managed by the first line. Develop, manage and refine regular risk reporting information from across the business to support effective decision making by senior executives and the Board. This includes performance of the HSL’s ORSA.
