**Job description**

This role is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of an exciting EU-funded LIFE project aimed at delivering the next stage of restoration for the Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve. The LIFE Moor Space project (LIFE20 NAT/UK/000697) is a five year project running from 1 October 2021 to 31 December 2026. The project aims to restore 400 ha of degraded lowland raised bog on Thorne Moor Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and promote better understanding of the SAC to a range of UK and EU audiences. The LIFE project is led by Natural England working in partnership with the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. The project is financially supported by LIFE, a financial instrument of the European Commission. The Moor Space project will be focused on the purchase, habitat and hydrological restoration of areas of degraded bog on Thorne and Crowle Moors, part of the Thorne Moors Special Area of Conservation, the largest area of lowland raised bog in England.

The Technical Officer will be responsible for supporting the Project Manager in delivering this exciting project through the effective delivery, monitoring and communication of peatland restoration activities of the project, working alongside colleagues in Natural England and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust to ensure that the project achieves milestones agreed in the EU LIFE Grant agreement.

**Key tasks / Accountabilities**
- To ensure the successful delivery of the project the following key tasks will need to be undertaken by the Technical Officer under the direction and line management of the Project Manager:

- Delivery and coordination of technical project communications including dissemination tools, networking, events and promotion using various media, with a specific focus on technical audiences.
- Create a monitoring plan that will assess the success of the concrete actions and ensure cost-effective and timely data collection.
- Support the creation of an After LIFE plan
- Undertake monitoring of peatland restoration
- Undertake the Peatland Code baseline surveys on the parcels of land
- Lead on replication and transfer activities for the project
- Engage and network with a primarily technical audience with regards to transfer and replication of Moor Space activities
- Work with the Project Manager in the management of a grant scheme that will support UK and EU organisations with support for replication and transfer activities
- Run technical workshops, webinars and conferences
- Write technical reports covering peatland restoration

***Additional information**

A driving licence is desirable for the role but not essential. Occasional travel will be required for this role to rural/remote locations.
- National travel will be required, which will involve some overnight stays and anti-social hours. Natural England encourages staff to travel by public transport wherever this is feasible.
