A school with excellent facilities and a strong belief in reducing educational disadvantage in children excluded from school is looking for a Teaching Assistant to join them in September. The school is nestled in South Somerset with a few campuses that servethe needs of different aged children and young people. The staff at the school are passionate about helping children to feel secure and supporting them to make progress with their learning. Children who attend the school have experienced trauma and/or haveadverse childhood experiences (A.C.E.s). This can lead to challenging behaviour. The children are considered to have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (S.E.M.H.) needs.
The role requires someone with experience working in S.E.M.H. schools. Ideally, you will have experience in supporting children or young people with their mental health. However, if you have worked with adults in a residential/ care setting then this will beconsidered. You will need to be passionate about supporting children through education. You will be motivating, positive and patient. You will show skill in adapting quickly and using your initiative.
The school would like someone who can work 5 days a week, the hours are 8:30-15:30.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting 1:1 in class.
- Help the students to access the curriculum and possibly tailor the lesson of the activity to their level of ability.
- Build a strong relationship with the pupils and teaching staff to ensure that the pupils are achieving their potential.
- Be a support to the students when they are struggling, and help them to calm down and remain focussed.
Essential criteria:
Previous experience working with individuals with SEN/Autism/Complex Needs/SEMH.
Able to work between 08:30-15:30 and a minimum of 2 days a week.
At least 6 months' experience working with children in education, care or a coaching role.
Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
At least one recent child-based reference and relevant DBS/ Police checks
