To lead the development and deployment of LR’s sustainability and environmental vision, strategy, policy and systems to enhance LR’s sustainability performance. To propose, and own (on behalf of the ELT), LR’s plan to get to Net Zero and associated ScienceBased Targets.
To understand and raise the profile of environmental and sustainability issues and to champion appropriate improvements and action plans. To support the promotion of LR’s sustainability credentials in the market, through contributing to LR’s Annual ESG andother associated reporting (UNGC, etc), as well as customer and other campaign communications.
To measure, verify and report environmental and sustainability performance, ensuring transparency and compliance with relevant mandatory and voluntary initiatives. To inspire and inculcate a bottom-up, employee driven culture of responsibility for the environmentand meeting associated commitments, focused on individual accountability, personal behaviours and acts.
**Responsibilities**
Provide leadership to implement change for improving sustainability performance
Provide direction, advice and support to the organisation to enable the business to manage their environmental and sustainability responsibilities effectively
Create an environmental sustainability vision, influencing and challenging organisational culture to improve sustainability performance
Deliver and translate a vision for sustainability into a range of initiatives and processes that deliver behavioural change and sustainable solutions
Facilitate and co-ordinate the activities, as co-Chair, of the Sustainability Committee to ensure appropriate ownership, and delivery, of the corporate sustainability programme
Maintain and co-ordinate the emissions reduction plan in line with LRs long term science-based target and net zero ambitions
Support and guide the business and support functions to further the integration of environmental and sustainability considerations within new projects, services and innovations, specifically those that relate to LRs significant Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions
Maintain an understanding of sustainability initiatives (e.g. voluntary, legislative, etc.) that shape strategic direction and potential opportunities
Management and maintenance of systems and compliance processes
Work with QHSE Managers to ensure the continuous improvement and implementation of the environmental requirements of the HSES Management System and the group-wide ISO 14001 environmental management systems certification to reduce impacts on the environment
Update, develop and deploy environmental policies and procedures within the QHSE Management System, ensuring simplicity and efficiency of QHSE governance systems
Verify effective implementation of environmental procedures in compliance with internal and external requirements and identifying improvements
Keep up to date with environmental legislative and best practice
Development of capability, collaborative networks and relationships to advance environment and sustainability
Engage and build effective relationships with key internal stakeholders to improve their understanding and buy-in on sustainability, and the relevance of sustainability to LR’s purpose and vision.
Work collaboratively with support functions, QHSE Area teams and across broader structures and networks to advance sustainability through innovative, exciting and engaging communications
Advise and guide the QHSE network, support their development and coverage, and ensure their environmental responsibilities are fulfilled
Work to increase staff awareness of sustainability and environmental matters, including the development and delivery of bespoke training programmes
Develop case studies and measure impacts of products/services that reflect environmental innovation and expertise to enhance external relations, promote LR’s leadership in this sector and share best practice across the business
Provide appropriate training and mentoring for environmental sustainability systems and tools to internal stakeholders
Develop a structured approach and governance mechanism to enable, promote and sustain local engagement and to raise the profile of sustainability
Performance reporting and transparency
Identify relevant sources of data and establish measures to analyse group wide environmental and sustainability performance
Critically analyse data, and report information that informs decision making and ongoing review and innovation to maintain progress towards the goal of sustainability
Ensure transparency of LR’s sustainability performance and provide verifiable data that is aligned to and in compliance with the GRI and UNGC reporting requirements
Benchmark performance against internal and external measures to ensure compliance to mandatory and voluntary standards and requirements
To be considered
At least Associate or Practitioner Member, Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment and working towards Full /Chartership level.
2-4 years’ experience in deploying Environmental Management Systems and auditing of ISO 14001.
Prior leadership experience in setting science-based targets, translating these into implementation plans and of delivering significant reductions in emissions, ideally within professional services.
High cultural sensitivity and experience of socio-economic influences upon HSES, particularly within emerging economies.
Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation, both internally and externally. Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills in a multi-cultural environment.
Able to work across diverse and changing functions, and operate effectively within matrix reporting lines, to support the achievement of key performance indicators and goals.
Ability to coach and mentor team members, and others, to achieve personal and team goals
