**HGV Mechanic/Fitter**

**Hours, Mon - Thu 12noon - 8pm, Fri 10am - 6pm (Overtime available)**

**Salary, £25,000 - £45,000pa (Dependant on experience)**

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HGV Mechanic/Fitter located in the Tyldesley area for a well-established logistics company. As a HGV Mechanic you will be responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all petrol and diesel powered Heavy Good Vehicles, working within a small team of Mechanics to ensure all vehicles are back on the road within a efficient timely manner.

The successful applicant will complete an initial 12 week probation period, before being taken on a permanent basis.

**Role and responsibilities of a HGV Mechanic/Fitter will include but not limited to**:

- Carry out routine maintenance and repair of any vehicles and plant as defined by the motor vehicle retail and repair industry and vehicle manufacturers specifications within minimum supervision.
- Carry out all maintenance and repairs either within the workshop or on site.
- Conduct routine inspections, condition reports, indicating if uneconomic to repair, and pre-MOT/DOT inspections as necessary.
- Undertake roadworthiness inspections of vehicles & Trailers.
- Diagnose vehicle defects including use of IT based diagnostic equipment and inform the garage foreman of work content.
- Advise repairs required through unfair wear and tear and advise garage foreman.
- Carry out general repairs and major overhauls or replacement of engines and gearboxes as required.
- Attend vehicle breakdowns and conduct roadside repairs as necessary.
- Be part of the on-call rota for roadside breakdowns
- Carry out basic automotive electrical work.
- Carry out gas and electric welding as necessary.
- Co-ordinate the scheduling of repairs and ordering/receiving of parts etc.
- Participate in the training of apprentices and pass on the necessary training information and skills.
- Be available to work late or early shifts as required.

**Skills and experience required for a HGV Mechanic/Fitter**
- Knowledge of commercial vehicle maintenance
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation including LOLER.
- Knowledge of road transport law
- City and guilds motor technicians or equivalent
- A full driving licence and LGV1 licence is essential
