Arnold Lodge is a medium secure unit in Leicester which offers inpatient care across three pathways - male mental health, male personality service and a women's service.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Therapy Services Department for an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner in Creative Arts. Creative Arts includes drawing, painting, craft-based activities, photography, writing, poetry, music and drama.
Therapy Services consists of an established dedicated team of Occupational Therapists, Support staff, Peer Support workers and Sports, Fitness and Well-being staff. We work together to provide a comprehensive range of interventions to meet the therapeutic needs of the patient group.
You will lead on providing an inclusive, needs led programme of creative arts for all patients at Arnold Lodge. We have an art studio and other facilities that can be used for music, drama or photography.
You require an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Art and GCSE/GCE Grade C or above in English and Maths.
You need significant experience of organising and facilitating group and individual creative art sessions using different media.
To develop interventions for patients based on the clinical needs identified by Occupational Therapists.
Facilitating individual or group creative arts sessions in the Therapy Services Department and on the wards.
To have oversight of all creative sessions and projects within the Therapy Services Department; providing support and guidance where required.
To lead on specific projects within Arnold Lodge and organise events as required, which will include liaising with other arts providers.
To provide advice to colleagues on how creative approaches can benefit patients and support their recovery.
To evaluate the effectiveness of creative interventions in conjunction with Occupational Therapists.

To take responsibility for submissions to the annual Koestler Awards.
To lead on organising performances at carer’s events.
To prepare equipment/materials for each individual/group session
Undertake specific risk assessments and inductions as required
Ensure the maintenance of a safe and secure treatment environment.
Keep accurate, appropriate and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with local and Trust policy
You will receive a comprehensive induction programme and support to develop in the role. Clinical and managerial supervision will be provided by Occupational Therapy Staff.
