We are seeking an outstanding early-career researcher wishing to contribute to a range of mixed-methods health services research projects and clinical services. You will join the research group of Professor Christopher McDermott at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) to work on clinical research projects focusing on the supportive and symptomatic management of people with motor neuron disease (pwMND) and other neurodegenerative disorders.
The post provides an excellent opportunity to undertake high quality research within a stimulating multi-disciplinary context working directly with a team of healthcare professionals and researchers from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Sheffield. You will be primarily responsible for developing a research pathway that runs alongside the existing Telehealth in MND (TiM) clinical pathway. You will also support research projects funded through the National MND Institute for Research, and the further development and evaluation of the TiM clinical platform, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). You may also contribute to the wider activities within the group, including student supervision and teaching.
**The aim of the Telehealth in MND project is to**:
- Work in collaboration with MND centres/networks, pwMND, carers, ADI-UK and healthcare professionals using co-design techniques to further develop and evaluate the TiM system to improve access to specialist MND care and clinical trials for pwMND.
- Evaluate the implementation of the TiM system in different clinical settings.
- Develop a research arm to the TiM system to enable pwMND to participate in research regardless of where they live.
You will have the opportunity to assist in the design, set-up and conduct of health services research projects. This will include writing protocols and other relevant supporting documents; assist with submissions for ethical, governance and regulatory approvals; be actively involved in patient consent, data collection and data analysis; and research findings dissemination.
You should have a Master’s or PhD in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience). Experience of previous research or work experience within the NHS and excellent IT skills are essential for this role.
