**We are looking for 2 relief, Family Support Workers for our Quarriers Family Support Service in Dumfries. This is a permanent post.**

Quarriers Family Support Service D&G is located in Dumfries, we have been in a privileged position to identify unmet need for families and the development of a “whole family” approach has led to a range of innovative services which work across Dumfries and Galloway such as Short breaks for children, Family support for families who have additional needs, father project and mums groups.

Regionwide we have developed teams of Family Support Workers who work out of office bases in Dumfries and Stranraer. This has been in response to the needs of Children with Disabilities Social Workers who refer children and young people with significant learning disabilities/autism/physical disabilities.

The Family Support Worker ‘s purpose is to assist in the provision of individualised person-centred support to children with disabilities and their families and contribute to the child’s own outcome based support plan, as part of a team. Delivering 1:1 support to children affected by disability at home or out in the community. This can include supporting individuals or groups outside school/college hours, in the evening or at weekends and working as part of a team to assess and/or improve parenting skills in the family home, transport children from remote locations to community activities in the area.

We look to our Family Support Workers to promote physical & emotional wellbeing of the children we support, by building on their feelings of security, responsibility and worth. Develop and maintain professional and caring relationships between parents and children in pursuit of their personal development by providing access to skills development, both social and practical. Nurture appropriate relationships out with Quarriers to enable the child to sustain and build their own social circle and support network and participate alongside the children in social, leisure, learning and work activities as appropriate eg attending college, swimming, sports groups, and independent living skills such as cooking.
