We are currently seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Mechanical Quality Inspector to join our dynamic team. As a Mechanical Quality Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of mechanical parts and assemblies produced both in-house and by our subcontractors. Your expertise in using traditional mechanical inspection equipment and 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM co-ordinate measuring machines (CMM) will be essential in conducting comprehensive inspections and maintaining our high-quality standards.
**Responsibilities**:
- Perform thorough inspections of mechanical parts and assemblies using traditional mechanical inspection equipment and 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM CMM, including programming capabilities.
- Coordinate and oversee the verification process of in-house machined components, utilising a variety of gauges and tools to ensure adherence to quality standards and accurate adherence to engineering drawings.
- Identify any inaccuracies or discrepancies in component quality and promptly reject/report them. Utilise the in-house Observation Report System to escalate issues to the appropriate engineer for resolution.
- Conduct Chemical Etching and PMI testing as required.
- Collaborate with suppliers to address and resolve quality issues with supplied goods. Conduct supplier visits and audits when necessary.
- Ensure proper documentation accompanies materials/components during inspection. Verify the corresponding documentation for necessary certifications.
- Perform checks on coils, cables, battery packs, and other assemblies, ensuring visual integrity, correct crimp joints, and accurate labelling. Occasionally, conduct testing of batteries and simple PCBs under supervision until full training is provided.
- Liaise with design and development engineers during the inspection of prototype parts and assemblies to resolve any development issues.
- Prioritise work from the internal Machine Shop and external subcontractors/suppliers, taking into account short notice requests from production control.
- Perform routine care and general maintenance activities for inspection equipment, ensuring calibration within specified requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date records of inspection activities in the Company's ERP Electronic Resource Planning (Syspro) system. Prepare and circulate reject notes as required.
- Ensure that all gauges and equipment used for the Inspection/PMI processes are identified and calibrated according to the calibration database's due dates. Update supporting systems and documentation to reflect the latest calibration status of equipment.
- Conduct all work activities in strict adherence to legislation and Company Health & Safety policies, promoting a culture of safety first. Escalate any unsafe conditions or practices to management for immediate attention.
- Demonstrate good dexterity and ability to lift up to 25kg. Utilise appropriate lifting equipment for heavier items.
