As part of the transformation of our workforce, we are developing and integrating the role of non-medical, multi-professional Approved Clinicians, into our clinical teams, to ensure we deliver the best care to our patients, every day.
Whilst undertaking the training programme, you’ll also work as a senior member of our MDT, with a core set of duties and responsibilities agreed. We have posts available within both inpatient and community services.
Becoming an Approved Clinician is an immensely exciting career opportunity, with the potential to have a real impact on the treatment of patients, shaping the way care is delivered by our clinical teams, the development programme is extremely challenging.
You will need to be a registered Healthcare Professional, with significant senior clinical experience in Mental Health services and a strong desire to lead by example for a developing workforce. An established clinical leader, you’ll have project management skills, have a track record of managing change and work effectively under pressure.
These roles are aligned with the North Manchester division who are at the heart of significant government funding as well as local investment to develop, innovate and bring to reality the vison of improving lives of the people of Manchester.
You will spend approximately 2 yrs on a development programme to become an AC, being released for 1-2 days per week, undertaking the Postgrad Certificate in Professional Practice in Law: Mental Health, with Northumbria University (a combination of face to face & online sessions). Yr 1 will be for the completion of the academic programme, Yr 2 portfolio completion. Once qualified you will take up an Approved Clinician role.
Aims of the post (during training)
To develop the core competencies of an Approved Clinician, accessing support from AC's across the Trust to develop broad knowledge and clinical experience
To complete the Approved Clinicians development programme including completion of the Academic Education programme (training programme is anticipated to take a maximum of 2 years)
**During training & on completion**:
To be accountable for your own professional practice in the delivery of highly specialist care to clients with severe and enduring mental health conditions which includes psychiatric & social co-morbidity & significant challenging behaviours with risk of physical aggression
To provide clinical leadership in the continual development & provision of excellence across the Division and to lead on specific service development work ensuring its embedded in practice
To undertake co-ordination & management of research projects
To promote at all times, a positive image of people with mental ill health & of the service and wider Trust

To undertake the role of Trainee Multi-professional Approved Clinician, developing Approved Clinician competences for an identified client group incorporating the eight clinical competences as per the Department of health guidance.
- Comprehensive understanding of the AC role, legal responsibilities and key functions of the AC and RC role

Plans individual patient/client care and where appropriate co-ordinates care with the multi-disciplinary team and external partners
Working as an autonomous, professional, practitioner in respect of assessment, interventions and discharge of service users.
The postholder will play a key role in supporting the clinical leadership team in the overall operational planning and development of the specified service which may need addressing at a broader strategic level.
