Menzies Distribution are looking for a HGV Shunter to join our team in Preston. Based on a 52 hour week, this role involves putting trailers into 5-7 bays, opening the curtains then once loaded, ensuring the load is secure, closing the curtains and thenparking the trailer in the trailer park. Additionaly we will require you to make sure the yard is clean, occassionaly tip reels in a shunt unit and if on occasion we are quiet we may require you to go out on the road.

**What You Really Want and Need To Know**:

- This is a Sunday to Thursday Position
- Based on a 52 hour week
- The hours of work are Sunday 18:00-06:00 and Monday to Thursday 21:00-07:00
- This role has a holiday allowance of 28 days including bank holidays.

**HGV Class 1 Driver Duties**:

- To carry out vehicle and trailer safety checks prior to commencement of shift complying with appropriate documentation and procedures.
- Ensure vehicle load is safe, secure and correctly positioned.
- Maintain communication at all times with the Traffic Office.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness, using all equipment safely as specified in operating procedures.
- Operate vehicle safely, ensuring driver actions do not endanger self or other road users.
- Comply with safe working practices at all times.
- Undertake any other reasonable job instruction to support the supply of a quality service to the customer.
- Rachet, strap and corner management.
- Ensuring secure loading is carried out.

HGV Class 1 Driver Requirements:

- A full UK C+E licence
- Previous experience in a shunting role preferred
- Self motivated individual
- Dedicated flexible and reliable.
- Excellent attendance record
- Excellent customer relations.
- Physically capable as this is a relatively demanding job.
