Oxford Nanopore Technologies is headquartered at the Oxford Science Park outside Oxford, UK, with satellite offices and commercial presence in many global locations across the US, APAC and Europe.
Oxford Nanopore's sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieveshort to ultra-long read lengths.
Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere. We offer real-time nanopore-based DNA/RNA sequencing technology: accessible, easy to use and fully scalable for any requirement
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Protein Sequencing Team as a Scientific Data Analyst to expand the capabilities of our platform from DNA and RNA into protein analysis. As a core member of this early-phase research team, you willhave a pivotal role in developing nanopore-based protein sequencing by building novel analysis tools to support the interpretation of electrical data obtained from nanopore experiments, and supporting experimental projects across the team from conception tointerpretation.
The details
- Reporting to the Associate Director, Protein Sequencing, the Scientific Data Analyst will develop methods for exploratory analyses on a range of early-phase protein sequencing methods, including deploying signal processing or machine learning algorithms, identifying ways to iteratively improve the chemistry.
- The ability to communicate with experimental scientists to propose a hypothesis, help plan an experiment, provide custom analysis to examine a dataset and refine the hypothesis is crucial, along with a strong understanding of the scientific method.
What we are looking for
Essential:
- Masters/PhD (or equivalent experience or industry experience) in Life, Physical or Mathematical Sciences (biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline).
- Proficient in python programming for developing novel analytical tools
- Ability to visualize and interrogate large datasets using python (pandas, numpy, matplotlib) or R
- Solid understanding of applied statistics and signal processing methods
- Experience of operating in a Linux environment and workflow management (bash-based scripting or snakemake/nextflow, etc.)
Desirable:
- A sound (at least Bachelor level) knowledge of protein biochemistry or a willingness to learn key concepts
- Familiarity with collaborative tools (such as git) and experience of explaining analytical concepts to non-specialist collaborators
- Experience in handling next-generation sequencing data and familiarity of existing bioinformatics tools for data analysis
- Experience with machine learning algorithms and processes
We offer outstanding benefits to include an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features and a lake, all of whichmake for a wonderful working environment.
About us Oxford Nanopore's goal is to bring the widest benefits to society through enabling the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere. The company has developed a new generation of nanopore-based sensing technology enabling the real-time, high-performance,accessible and scalable analysis of DNA and RNA. The technology is used in more than 100 countries to understand the biology of humans and diseases, plants, animals, bacteria, viruses and whole environments.
Oxford Nanopore was founded in 2005 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford and now employs around 650 employees around the world.
