We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Cancer Prehabilitation CNS for a period of 24 months part-time (18.75 hrs/week) to lead on our Digital Health Optimisation pilot programme for newly diagnosed cancer patients.

You will be based at Southend Hospital and work closely with all the site-specific cancer teams across the MSE and the Macmillan Integrated Cancer Care Lead.

The MSE diagnoses over 7000 new cancers a year across its three hosptial sites.

The focus of this digital health optimisation programme is to ensure that every newly diagnosed cancer patient has access to a health coach. Following an assessment, a health improvement programme specific to individual needs is provided covering physical activity, emotional wellbeing, nutrition, quality of life and self-efficacy.

Evidence has shown that digital health optimisation not only ensures patient are fit to undergo cancer treatment but also leads to an improvement in the patient’s general health and quality of life. This project will address current inequlities in access to prehabilitation programmes for cancer patients.

You will lead the implementation of this programme. Training and engaging clinical teams to support the programme and include this in conversations with patients. Work closely with the cancer access team and Alvie Health staff to ensure a smooth handover of patient lists, monitoring progress and evaluate outcomes.

You will have experience in supporting cancer patients as a senior clinical nurse and understands the far-reaching impact a cancer diagnosis can have on the patient as well as a good understand of the benefits of prehabilitation in terms of treatment outcome, general health and well-being aas well as quality of life. Managing and delivering change and engaging clinical staff as well as monitoring progress of the project against the project plan.

You should be motivated to function independently, using initiative to manage their own workload without close supervision to work to agreed deadlines and able to motivate, negotiate and influence on complex and sensitive projects with others, at a strategic level.
