**JOB DESCRIPTION: ROOM LEADER**

RESPONSIBLE TO: Centre Manager

**SUMMARY**:To ensure the efficient running of the Room working to CBCS guidelines through planning, preparation and organisation.

**MAIN DUTIES**:
To establish routines and practise that ensure high standards of childcare are maintained and ensure these are met at all times

To act in loco parentis in all relevant matters in order to ensure the safety and well being of the children attending the Centre, taking account of the social, educational and recreational needs of the children.

To develop programmes and plans to meet these needs.

To ensure administrative processes are undertaken efficiently and accurately.

To model good practise to staff.

To provide individual and group supervision of play staff.

To demonstrate a sensitivity and understanding of the children’s individual needs working in partnership with other members of staff and parents, to create a warm and caring environment.

To identify staff training needs in consultation with the Senior Management Team.

To ensure social, physical, intellectual, language and emotional needs of the children are met and keep appropriate records as evidence of this.

To promote positive relationships and interaction between all adults and children involved in the Centre.

To develop, monitor and review the curriculum updating activities available to children. To develop and monitor these plans.

To ensure parents/carers are well informed of their children’s progress and are always welcomed into the Centre.

To attend and participate in parent/staff meetings and other meetings as may be relevant. These being evening meetings sometimes in all day groups.

To be responsible for the line management of other staff in the room.

To ensure that effective health and safety procedures are carried out in the room.

To attend courses, some of these being evenings and weekends and disseminate information from these to other staff.

Monitor children for the identification of possible special education needs and discuss any concerns with the Centre’s nominated SENCO

Assess, record, and report on the development, progress and attainment of children and providing support to other staff through this process.

To work within the policies of adopted by Centre.

To assume responsibility for the room/group in the absence of the Co-ordinator.

To monitor and evaluate the progress of all staff members employed at the Centre

To ensure parents/carers are well informed of their children’s progress and are always welcomed into the Centre

**PERSON SPECIFICATION AND SELECTION CRITERIA.**

**ROOM LEADER**

A qualification in childcare or early years education, Diploma in Playgroup

Practice, NNEB, NVQ Level III or equivalent.

At least two years childcare experience

Knowledge of child development

Knowledge of early years learning.

Ability to develop an early years curriculum or plans

Good health record.

Experience of working in a team and exercising leadership

Ability to plan workloads and set priorities

Experience of working in a multi cultural environment

Good written and oral communication skills

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: Up to £29,328.00 per year
