Senior Highway Steward

**About The Job** Salary**:£33,486 to £36,371 per annum.

**Contract**:Permanent.

**Working Pattern**: Full-time, 37 hours per week.

**Location**: Chichester, independent travel around the County.

As a Senior Highway Steward, you will provide effective stewardship of an area. This includes being responsible for the delivery of a quality highway network, through regular inspection and repairs.

Some of your daily tasks will include:

- Supporting enforcement of highway regulations and ensure consistent and reliable licencing procedures.
- Supporting the delivery of contractual maintenance activities through monitoring and auditing.
- Working closely with Planned delivery Teams and asset owners to ensure that work is programmed effectively and efficiency.
- Acting as a mentor to Highway Stewards and task manage day to day activity.
- Advising on resolutions to difficult highway problems and providing technical input where necessary.

Excellent customer service is key to this role and this may be face to face, on the phone or written. As a senior member of the Area Team you will deal with more complex customer responses and will delegate for the local highway managers as required.

- Ability to remain calm when under pressure and be flexible in their working practices to allow changes to their work scheduling at short notice if there is a need to visit a particular site within a short timescale.

**Qualifications and/or experience**:

- Degree in engineering/related discipline, or an equivalent qualification, for example, HNC/ONC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- New Roads and Street Works Supervision Qualification.
- Experience of delivering a high-quality maintenance and repair service within a Highways context, meeting objectives and indicators, and dealing with safety issues in a prompt, prioritised and appropriate manner.
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of engineering/civil construction.
- Knowledge of the Highways Act, and other relevant pieces of legislation, including health and safety.
- Full current drivers’ licence.
- Sound and accurate IT knowledge.
