**Job Purpose**
To make a substantial and positive contribution to clinical research within child and adolescent psychiatry, aligned with the School, College and University’s vision.
The School promotes collaborations to promote high quality research, using advanced methodologies in genetics, epidemiology, social and clinical sciences. The postholder will actively engage and enhance collaborations with external stakeholders to advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach to promote child public health. The role is approximately 50% research and 50% clinical.
The post holder will be supported in conducting their own research and to establish themselves as academic clinicians within Scotland and internationally.
Clinical duties will be undertaken under an NHS honorary contract with NHS Ayrshire & Arran, contributing to clinical care commensurate with clinical specialty at Trainee, Specialist Doctor or Consultant level.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint research projects of national or international standard, at doctoral or postdoctoral level, participating actively in the development of the School of Health and Wellbeing research strategy.
2. Plan, design and implement projects or parts of projects, in conjunction with collaborators and grant holders as appropriate, and act as project leader on major research projects, developing a portfolio of research activity and publications of high quality and impact.
3. Manage data handling and interpretation of research results and take the lead in writing papers for publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals.
5. Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions and departmental research group activities.
6. Contribute to the organisation of project-related workshops, seminars or conferences.
7. Through an established network of external stakeholders, increasingly influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice aligned with the strategic priorities of the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow.
8. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
9. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.
10. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategy, World Changing Glasgow 2025.

**Clinical**
11. To offer clinical service provision in NHS Ayrshire and Arran, on an Honorary NHS Contract under the direction of the Clinical Director for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
12. Ensure compliance with annual appraisal and GMC/GDC NHS revalidation.
13. Participation in NHS/University Joint Appraisal Scheme is a condition of employment for all medical academic staff. In accordance with the Follett Report recommendations participation in a joint appraisal arrangement will be agreed locally.

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1. MBChB or equivalent
A2. Requisite clinical qualification and certification for clinical practice at trainee or Consultant level in the UK - minimum MRCPsych.
A3. Registered with General medical Council [GMC] and licensed to practice.
A4. Sustained engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
A5. Engagement with the current and future priorities of the School of Health and Wellbeing strategies, aims and ambitions.
A6. Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

**Skills**

**Essential**
C1. Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of research and activities.
C2. High quality clinical skills in psychiatry.
C3. Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.
C4. Ability to undertake academic leadership of groups/activities.
C5. Ability to forge new and effective relationships with colleagues, internally and externally, to foster collaboration across the University and with colleagues in other institutions.
C6. Ability to demonstrate independent thought to generate original research.

**Experience**

**Essential**
E1. Track record of published research of national or international standard compatible with enhancing the School of Health and Wellbeing submission to the REF.

**Terms & Conditions**
Salary will be on the Clinical Research Fellow scale
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 5 years.
Although this activity constitutes part of the job, the management of the clinical activity will be the full responsibility of the NHS Organisation. In the unlikely event that the NHS Organisation withdraws the honorary contract, the University will not be able to continue this post and notice of termination will be served.
