**Job Title: Mental Health Youth Worker / Support Worker (2 posts available)**

**Salary**: £24,050 pro rata (£10.400 actual )

**Hours**: 16 per week

**Place of work**: Young Women’s Outreach Project, 12 Gladstone Terrace, Gateshead and within the North East.

**Term**: 12 month contract

**Purpose of the Role**
We are looking for a female Mental Health Youth Worker who will provide mental health support on a one to one basis and deliver small group work and well-being activities alongside our Youth Engagement Workers. The Mental Health Youth Worker will offer evidence based interventions to young women and young mothers aged 11
- 25 years, who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues.

**Management Responsibilities**
- To attend regular formal and informal supervision.
- To build strong and lasting relationships with existing partner agencies and statutory services.
- This role reports to the Mental Health Coordinator

**Key Responsibilities & Duties**
- To support the Mental Health Coordinator to deliver evidence based mental health interventions and activities on a one to one and small group work basis in a variety of settings.
- To ensure interventions enable young women and young mothers to make informed choices about issues that affect their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
- To develop and deliver mental health workshops and small group work wellbeing activities alongside Youth Engagement Workers
- To assess the needs and suitability of young people for the settings and support they will access.
- To support existing youth groups with a mental health focus, enabling them to share knowledge and skills they have learned through their own experience and interventions at the Young Women’s Outreach Project, both within their group and our wider community of young women.
- To support activities delivered through the “Jam Jar Fund” in conjunction with the Mental Health Coordinator.
- To promote a safe and friendly environment for young women to establish a relationship of trust.
- To signpost and refer young women and young mothers to external organisations, for example Children and Young People’s Service.
- To contribute towards monitoring, evaluating and reports for Managers,

Trustees and Funders. Facilitate the participation of young women within the service and feedback their views.
- To keep accurate and up to date records
- To promote the Young Women’s Outreach Project’s Mental Health & Wellbeing services to external agencies, existing partners, service users and potential clients.
- Advocacy for young women with professionals and carers, including linking with external agencies and professionals
- To work strictly within the organisation’s Safeguarding and Confidentiality

Policies at all times, promoting a positive culture of safeguarding young women and young mothers.
- To attend regular supervision with the Mental Health Coordinator
- Health and safety assessment of the building and activities with young people.

Work within processes to ensure safe working and following lone working procedures.

**Essential Experience, Knowledge and Skills**

**Experience, skills and knowledge Essential (E) or Desirable (D)**

Minimum of 3 years of experience **E**
working with young people

Minimum Level 3, recognised Youth Work **E**
or relevant Mental Health Qualification

Able to identify and assess the needs of **E**
young women and young mothers.

Ability to work in a self-directed way and **E**
as part of a diverse team, demonstrating appropriate communication and advanced interpersonal skills

Able to work flexibly and to develop E practice and services offered.

Ability to collect reporting data, compile **E**
case studies and monitoring information

Understanding of youth work methods or **E**
therapeutic group work and experience of delivery of these sessions / programmes.
Knowledge of a range of counselling **D**
approaches and evidence based interventions.

Experience of managing safeguarding risk **E**
in a confidential, voluntary sector setting.

Experience of working with appropriate **D**
professional boundaries for young people who may move between different aspects of a service

Knowledge of current and relevant **E**
legislation.

Driving licence and access to own vehicle **D**
