Job Description
Are you interested in joining a dynamic, innovative department which deals with firm resolution, insolvency and failure and is at the heart of developing the resolution and insolvency strategy for the FCA? Within the Resolution & Insolvency Department we are looking for a talented Senior Associate.
You will be responsible for working with firms that pose the highest risk of harm to consumers and the FCA’s objectives when they are failing or have failed. The department deals with a varied, interesting and cutting edge portfolio of work with no two days the same. If you are an accountant, lawyer or an experienced supervisor of firms who is interested in insolvency and restructuring and would like to join a department with opportunities to continue your professional development, this could be the role for you.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Leading and supporting on complex resolution and insolvency cases to minimise harm to consumers arising from firm failure, including where firms hold client money or assets.
- Engaging with and influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver the best outcome for consumers.
- Partnering with colleagues around the FCA to create and deliver an effective strategy for the resolution of failing firms.
- Analysing and translating complex issues and making recommendations in a way that can be understood by non-technical audiences.
- Analysing complex business models and firm issues and identifying and proposing solutions for issues arising in firm failure scenarios.
- Ensuring that internal processes and governance procedures are adhered to.

Skills/Experience Required
Minimum
- Previous experience of either supervision, accountancy, law, insolvency or restructuring.
- Excellent written language skills.
Essential
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, including dealing with a range of external parties.
- Credible, persuasive communicator, able to communicate views positively and effectively to stakeholders inside and outside the organisation.
- Sound judgement, including being prepared to advance well-reasoned views where limited or inconclusive information is available.
- Demonstrable experience of managing a number of tasks and priorities at once.
- Ability to work with others to achieve effective results.
- Team-working skills - the nature of the department's work is highly collaborative.
- Ability to build a strong network across the organisation and have the confidence to deliver, provide advice and challenge on a range of matters.
Desirable
- Experience of Financial Services regulation; this could be from working at a regulated firm, supervising one or working as an advisor to regulated firms.
- Knowledge and/or experience of the UK client asset and/or safeguarding regimes.
- Knowledge and/or experience of insolvency issues and procedures.

We are responsible for providing specialist expertise to the FCA, across all regulated sectors, and support to front-line supervisors.
We work in partnership with Supervisors, the Financial Resilience Department, Client Assets Supervision and numerous other colleagues across the FCA on all 51,000 FCA regulated firms.
