An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our growing freshwater ecology team to deliver a range of ecological services supporting our UK and International teams. You will be part of our Cambridge team, but you may be based in another office.

As a Senior Freshwater Ecologist, you will be joining a multidisciplinary environmental team, working closely with other disciplines to ensure ecological objectives for projects are delivered successfully, with a key focus on leading on a range of aquatic ecological deliverables such as EIAs, HRAs and WFDs in the UK as well as ESIAs and Due Diligence investigation for International projects, just to name a few.

What you will contribute to the team;
As part of this role you will be:

- Advising clients and design teams on the implementation of national and international environmental and ecological best practice.
- You will be defining freshwater ecological monitoring requirements and managing sub-consultants to carry out surveys.
- You will also be preparing technical reports and undertake project management, including resource planning, managing budgets. There will be also the opportunity to contribute to work winning, including the development of proposals.

The role will suit a dynamic, proactive individual who wants to work in a growth area of our business and help support the delivery of freshwater ecological services in a fast moving, client focussed commercial environment.

Required for the position of Senior Freshwater Ecologist;
You should have a strong combination of the following:
Essential
- Membership of a professional body or willingness to work towards membership and Chartership if not.
- Able to undertake some of the following: fish surveys, River Habitat Surveys (with accreditation), Morph, macrophyte and macroinvertebrate surveys.
- Demonstrable knowledge of fish, macrophyte and/or macroinvertebrate ecology.
- Excellent understanding of UK and international nature conservation legislation and development of mitigation strategies for protected species and habitats.
- Experience in preparation and writing ecological sections of EIAs, HRAs or ESIAs, ensuring that legislative guidelines are met.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team; show initiative, make robust, defensible decisions and work to tight deadlines to meet client needs.
- Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to write concise reports.
- Desirable- Good knowledge of aquatic invasive species and mitigation/control measures.
- Ecological enhancements, biodiversity net gain and nature-based solutions
- Demonstrable experience in hydroecology.
- Ideally, a working knowledge of international best practice guidance, such as the IFC’s Performance Standards (particularly in relation to biodiversity and aquatic habitats and species).
- Good commercial awareness.
- Willingness to travel for work if required.
- Current, clean driving licence.
