St Paul's Centre is a well-established local charity based in the centre of Crewe. Since 1986 it has provided a range of services focused on meeting local practical need. It is a growing charity inspired by its Christian beliefs and driven by a passion to help and support people in their times of hardship.
The collection of donated items and delivery of furniture purchases to our retail customers is crucial in supporting all the objectives of the Charity. Van Driver’s Mates are responsible for ensuring that the collection and delivery of goods is completed safely, on time, and efficiently.
When acting as a Van Driver’s Mate, the postholder will act as banksman, assist in maintaining a clean, safe vehicle and for the placing of goods in the appropriate warehousing slots at the end of the shift. The postholder is required to exercise excellent customer service skills with the public and with our partner organisations. When based in the centre, the role involves moving stock into position on the sales floor and assisting with general duties in preparing the shop floor and assisting with client enquiries at the back gate.
**Deliveries and Collections**
Assisting the Van Driver in loading and unloading stock from the van, calling or messaging customers to advise of scheduled arrival, conducting banksman duties and helping to keep the vehicle safe and clean.
Responsible for ensuring safe ways of working are adhered to whilst completing assigned schedule. This includes conducting dynamic risk assessments based on the location and scenario.
8-10 drops/collections per day plus loading/unloading.
Liaising with the Operations Administrator regarding deliveries/collections and timetable.
**Loading & Warehousing**
Assisting with loading or unloading the vehicle and moving furniture and stock items into the warehouse or shop floor.
Ensuring all collected items are identified and logged correctly using the Charity Suite software.
Liaising with the Operations Administrator where required to ensure efficient ways of working.
Maintaining safe ways of working using standard procedures at all times and promoting a positive attitude towards health and safety.
Driving change in ways of working to ensure maximum efficiency.
Assisting with general administration tasks when in and around the centre.
**Customer Service**
Presenting a professional, positive and friendly service to customers and supporters of the charity.
Maintaining the confidentiality of internal and external customers at all times.
Handling face-to-face client enquiries relating to donations and collections directly from the building.
**Person Specification (Essential)**
Able to lift and carry items as part of a 2-man team, including furniture / white goods.
Willing attitude and friendly approach with strong customer service skills
Reliable and trustworthy.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks, manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Ability to communicate clearly with all departments throughout the organisation.
The ability to assess and understand operational processes.
A ‘can-do’ attitude and someone who thrives on challenge and who can identify problems and generate effective and correct solutions.
