We have an exciting opportunity to join the team at Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre as a General Catering Assistant. The key purpose of the role is to support the Head Chefs and Chefs and assist in the daily production of food and provide and carry out catering services to the establishment.

Whilst maintaining an exceptionally high standard of food production service and food hygiene you will prepare and cook varied and healthy menus for detainees to include special diets, special day and religious events. You’ll provide hospitality requirements as ordered and assist the catering manager, head chef & catering supervisor in all aspects of running the kitchen.

You will keep preparation and work areas in a clean and hygienic condition as all times and the thorough cleaning of these areas, including equipment after each service and observe all statutory health and hygiene regulations. You will need good oral and written skills to report any hazards you may encounter in your place of work and complete incident reports, intelligence reports, Use of Force paperwork and accident report.

Here within our Asylum Accommodation and Support Services Contract at Coventry, we focus on assisting individuals through the asylum system - ensuring that vulnerable asylum seekers have access to the support they need along with suitable accommodation. As our new Catering Assistant you’ll play an important role in this as you help to deliver catering services to residents on site.

Working alongside the catering manager and our friendly team you’ll do this by preparing and cooking varied and healthy meals that consider specific dietary requirements, whilst also ensuring we comply with health, safety and food regulations. You’ll also make sure that the security and safety of all foodstuffs is maintained during delivery, storage and distribution - and that work areas are kept clean and hygienic.

And whilst you’re here preparing food for some of the most vulnerable people in society, we’ll be supporting you. As well as all the initial training and accreditation you need to get going, you’ll find work that works for you in a values driven organisation. All uniform is provided.

**What you need to do the role**

As well as good interpersonal, teamwork, problem solving, and communications skills, you’ll need to have English and Maths qualifications up to level 2/GCSE. Given the setting you’ll be working in, you’ll an understanding of working in a socially diverse environment along with basic working knowledge of commercial kitchen environments.

And whilst you’ll ultimately need to have a Level 2 Qualification in Food Safety & HACCP, Allergens in Catering, and First Aid in Work - you will be supported to complete these courses during your probation period.
