We are looking for a Carpenter / Joiner with traditional carpentry skills to join our Specialist Craft Team, working on our extensive property portfolio. As a Carpenter / Joiner, you will have a broad knowledge of both traditional and modern construction, along with an appreciation of conservation methods of listed and traditional buildings, associated materials and maintenance techniques. You’ll have the knowledge and confidence to assist less experienced team members and play an active part in the training and the development of apprenticeships within the National Trust.

This is a permanent opportunity based at Park Farm, West Wycombe.

We are offering a salary in the region of £29,829 to £34,230, depending on experience. Vehicles and tools are provided.

What it's like to work here:Reporting into the Building Supervisor, you will work within a team made up of other Specialist Craftpersons, including Masonry and Carpentry Specialists, an Apprentice Carpenter and a Business Service Coordinator. Through delivery of conservation repairs, the team will help to look after our most significant and historic buildings across London and the South East. In addition to conservation carpentry repair and joinery tasks on windows, doors, floorboards and gates, other works may include roofing, traditional lath ceiling works and fitting new joinery.

We are a small but highly proficient team, we all help each other when needed, therefore you will need be knowledgeable in other trades.

What you'll be doing:From bench joinery to site joinery, your role will be varied. The scope of work you will be doing covers fabrication and installation of specialist bespoke joinery on windows, doors, paneling, mouldings and beadings. Conservation repairs to historic woodwork onsite, timber repairs to existing joinery and preparation for redecoration.

Part of our work is also to engage with our members and visitors. This can include talking to visitors and showing them the conservation work that’s being carried out. This often improves the visitors’ experience at the property and raises the profile of the Specialist Craft work.
- Who we're looking forPractical traditional carpentry skills, ideally NVQ Level 2 and / or 3, comparable experience will also be considered
- Experience of working on heritage and conservation projects
- Generalist building maintenance skills: pointing, painting, flint work, brick work, finishing and splicing.
- Good people skills with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external customers.
- Proficient in the use of workshop machinery / equipment
- Willingness to undertake additional training offered by the National Trust to maintain and increase skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety compliance requirements, ideally CSCS and / or PASMA
