Welsh Water is the sixth largest of the ten regulated water and sewerage companies in England and Wales. Responsible for providing over three million people with a continuous, high quality supply of drinking water and for taking away, treating and properly disposing of the wastewater that is produced, we are fully committed to delivering best quality service at least possible cost. We're different from other water and energy companies. We don’t have shareholders. This means that we’re able to keep bills down; help more customers who are struggling to pay their bills; and also put every single penny we make straight back into maintaining and improving our services and protecting our environment — now, and for years to come.
**What you’ll do**
As a competent process engineer you will be responsible for the design and development of process and hydraulic systems that are used in the assets that we own and operate as part of the wider business. As part of the engineering design team located in the South Wales area you will be expected to attend site to assess the condition of the asset and design a solution using a ‘Process basis of design’ that complies with all relevant national, industry and company standards. Additionally, you will be expected to attend HAZOPs meetings and comply with the CDM Regulations (2015). You will support the solutions engineering team by providing technical process engineering support and expert guidance during the concept stage of a scheme.
You will work with our Engineering Consultants who will be undertaking similar work to our Asset Design Team and ensure that their design and feasibility studies comply with the expected industry standards. You will ensure that their design meets the same highest internal quality standards that we have set for ourselves. Our Engineering Consultants will be delivering a major portion of the Pre-IDP2 AMP8 work. Consequently, they will need process engineering assistance to be able to deliver optioneering and feasibility designs on time, that are fit for purpose and ensure that the appropriate solutions are taken forward for outline and detailed design (Stages 3 and 4).
**What you’ll be responsible for**
1. Ensure projects are designed safely, on time and within budget, working closely with other members of the Asset Design Team including other stakeholders within Asset Strategy. Take an active role and be responsible as ‘Technical Lead - Process Engineering’ for water scheme solutions being designed across our Engineering Consultancy Framework. Ensure the solutions selected are designed within the statutory, regulatory and financial outputs of the DCWW Business Plan while complying with DCWW procurement processes at all times.
2. Ensuring effective working relationships with design teams to ensure our customers have trust in our designers and the solutions that we build and have an embedded carbon and sustainability agenda which supports Welsh Water’s delivery of its 2050 vision.
3. Participate in training & development in accordance with all Human Resource policies and procedures; including regular contact with your line manager, one to one meetings, performance reviews, identification and fulfilment of safety training needs and development needs.
5. Ensure that process engineering activities are carried out uniformly and to the appropriate DCWW standard specifications. Engage in a robust design review process of technical proposals, 3rd party designs and provide expert professional guidance to the business as required including mentoring others in the Asset Design Team. Ensure that any 3rd party designs remain on programme and get delivered on time.
6. Contribute to the achievement of the Asset Strategy key performance indicators which will be used to monitor and improve the effectiveness of the Asset Design Team. This includes working with our client managers, capital alliance partners, our procurement team, our cost management team and our supply chain to ensure that we deliver cost certainty, guarantee safe solutions and efficient delivery of the annual project workload.
7. Input into, and participate in robust monthly reporting and reviews.
8. Develop close working relationships with the Capital Delivery, Asset Planning, Supply Chain, Operations and the wider Asset Strategy Team to ensure continued alignment of strategy and delivery.
9. Carry out any other duties as required to meet business needs.
