An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Older Adult Psychology within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. We are looking for two enthusiastic individuals to join our existing team as Band 4 Assistant Psychologists. The posts are funded for 37.5 hours per week and are permanent positions. The post holders will support the provision of psychological assessment and intervention within inpatient and community settings. The post holders would be expected to travel various mental health facilities in Gwent as part of their role.
The older adult psychology service provides a range of evidenced based psychological therapies within the geographical area of Gwent, South Wales. Our current service consists of qualified practitioner psychologists, arts therapies practitioners and assistant psychologists. Our service is in the process of expanding to increase access to psychological therapies for older adults and currently employees four assistant psychologists. The main duties of this role include provision of psychological assessment and intervention to deliver assessment, group therapy and multi-disciplinary liaison within older adult mental health services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board serves the population of Gwent, South Wales and is located between Cardiff and Bristol. Many of our facilities are located close to the M4 corridor, yet areas of outstanding beauty and tranquillity are within easy reach. There are five boroughs, each with its own CMHT provision and comprising of secondary mental health services, memory assessment and liaison/inpatient support practitioners. Each CMHT and inpatient unit is line-managed by an experienced senior nurse and the multi-disciplinary team includes psychology, psychiatry, CPN’s, occupational therapists, social workers and administrative support staff.
The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has an excellent track record for supporting continuing professional development and supporting career development. We enjoy close links with major universities and provide clinical training support to the South Wales and Bath Clinical Training Courses. Support and supervision will be provided by senior psychologists and opportunities for peer support are available through the assistant psychologist peer group, older adult psychology specialty and wider psychology network.
The main duties of this role include provision of psychological assessment and intervention to older adult inpatient mental health wards, and provision of community based psychology services. This will include both individual assessment, group therapy and multi-disciplinary liaison.
Professional support and clinical supervision will be provided and opportunities for peer support are also available through the older adult psychology speciality and wider psychology network.
**The post holder will be responsible for**:
- Undertaking psychological assessments and interventions as part of the multi-professional team and as delegated by the Clinical Psychologist.
- Supporting the Clinical Psychologist to undertake clinically relevant research, service evaluation and audit.
- Supporting the Clinical Psychologist to undertake teaching and training.
