**About the Department**:
**The SOAS Library is one of the world's most important academic libraries for the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The Library attracts scholars from all over the world to consult its holdings and further their research. The Library houses over 1.3 million volumes at the SOAS campus at Russell Square in central London, together with a major collection of archives, manuscripts, rare books, an expanding Digital Library, 500 art objects and a growing network of electronic resources.**
**Special Collections is responsible for the management of the Library’s archive, manuscript, and rare book holdings. This includes acquiring, cataloguing, and preserving the collections. The Special Collections team also manages a service point providing access to the collections. Special Collections works closely with other teams in SOAS Library, including Collection Care and Digitisation, Access & Discovery and Reader Services, as well as colleagues across SOAS.**
**_About the _**_Role_**
**Reporting to the Curator of Rare Books & Manuscripts, the post holder will assess, refine and enhance existing manuscripts metadata in preparation for ingest into the new archives management system, Epexio. The post holder will work with various data formats, including MARC, TEI-XML, XLSX, as well as manipulating OCR generated text from scanned resources, to ensure consistent and comprehensive metadata. This work will also enrich existing catalogue records with additional information on extent, physical descriptions, provenance, and bibliographic details.**
