**Position Overview**:
This position works within the Transport department where you will be escorting abnormal indivisible loads to our own sites and to external customers. You will be responsible for preparing the escort vehicle and also for assisting the driver in checking that all plant & equipment is loaded safely and secured adequately for transit and to minimise the risk of damage.

The role will require you to have regular contact with site personnel and provide exceptional customer service, whilst ensuring that all plant & equipment arrives at the delivery site safely. You may also be required to stay away from home regularly depending on the job requirements.

**Key Responsibilities and accountabilities**:

- Preparing the escort vehicle before use; advise of any defects and rectify as required
- Assist in the loading of vehicles so that items are safely loaded and secured for transit and to minimise the risk of damage
- Checking the condition of transport vehicle and load before departure
- Understand and comply with movement orders
- Positioning escort vehicle appropriately on the road to warn traffic of oncoming HGV
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, unexpected situations and breakdowns
- Carry out post-operative checks to the escort vehicle/contents and advise of any defects
- To support transport operation by driving HGVs when required
- Communicate effectively with all third parties
- Drive allocated vehicle safely and in compliance with legislative requirements
- Comply with Companywide fuel efficiency directives
- Maintain the cleanliness of the driving cab and general tidy appearance of allocated vehicle
- Report any accidents as soon as possible, in accordance with the Company’s accident reporting procedure
- Provide excellent customer service at all times and be an ambassador for the Company
- Attend and complete essential training as required
- Keep abreast of existing and new legislation in relation to duties and responsibilities
- Provide support in the Yard as required by the Yard Manager

**Essential Qualifications/Desired Work Experience**:

- Full clean driving licence
- HGV class 1 licence is preferable
- Experience in the movement of heavy/abnormal loads

**Additional Skills and Qualities**:

- Be physically active due to the nature of the role
- Basic IT Skills required to use electronic device to update Company systems
- Excellent communication skills
- Good geographical knowledge of the UK road network
- Calm approach to adverse situations
- Flexible approach to training
- Ability to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism
- A positive ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to be a keen team player

**Hours and Environment**:
7:30am till 6pm. Minimum of 50 hrs per week.

Due to the nature of this role, employees are expected to be co-operative in working outside their normal hours as necessary to cope with varying situations and workloads.

**Salary**: £13.00 per hour
