**About you**
As a Highway Inspector you will bring to the role:
- Ability to successfully your own work load and complete it with in the required timescales
- Attention to detail with ability to record information accurately
- Willingness to work with the latest technology
- Be confident to make decisions and undertake risk assessments
- Some knowledge and experience of health and safety issues and highway features/ construction
**About the role**
There is one position available in a team of 11 inspectors. As a Highway Inspector you be a self motivated worker with a good ability to plan and manage your own work load. You should also enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions on your feet for long periods of time. Have a good attention to detail in order to identify defects and ability to communicate your findings in both written format and verbally. You must also be willing to attend court on occasion in order to defend any decisions you have made as part of your job.
The role is integral to our Highway Asset Management team who are responsible for safety inspections, monitoring and recording the safety and overall condition of one of the largest highway networks in the country.

**Job Purpose**:
A team member engaged in the inspection, assessment and risk management of highway assets to identify maintenance requirements and ensure the safety of the highway
**Responsibilities for Grade**:
- Undertake highway survey work to agreed programmes.
- Collect, update and validate highway condition and inventory data.
- Identify highway defects and maintenance work requirements and carry out appropriate procedures to implement repairs.
- Record and validate survey data using paper and electronic systems.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, including for the defence of liability claims.
- Support the provision of a high quality asset management service to deliver cost effective maintenance of highways infrastructure and highway related projects.
- Undertake a defined activity or a small range of the Department activities to ensure deliver best value services to customers, to meet the objectives of the Council Corporate Plan and comply with Government Standards.
- Promote and deliver positive solutions to achieving diversity and equality in all aspects of service delivery, community engagement areas, focusing on equality of outcome
- Actively support continuous improvement initiatives through contributing to cross council schemes and supporting the Service Management Team
- Be accountable for the safety of staff, service users and contractors in accordance with Legislation and the Council Health and Safety Policy.
- Support and assist in the development of policies which support efficient service delivery, continuous improvement and corporate objectives.
- Ensure work is produced in accordance with legislation and to the appropriate local, national and corporate standards, policies and practices.
- Assist in the development of partnership working.
- Support the development of staff within the team following the current staff development and appraisal procedures.
**Qualifications**
Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline or extensive equivalent appropriate experience.
