Hunger and malnutrition, climate change, and conflict continue to perpetuate extreme poverty in some of the most fragile parts of the world. Concern's advocacy on these issues is crucial to drive favourable policy change, investments, and action to tackle these overlapping crises, so as to ensure a lasting positive impact in the lives of people facing extreme poverty, and those displaced and vulnerable in the countries where we work. We deliver this advocacy based on a sound understanding of the nexus between these issues, evidence analysis, strategic stakeholder engagement, and effective campaigning.
**UK Advocacy Manager Responsibilities**:
To create impact in the lives of the poorest and those in greatest humanitarian need through effective advocacy and campaigns
In line with the UK strategic plan and the International Advocacy Strategy, to lead the advocacy team in the UK to plan and deliver strategic policy and parliamentary advocacy, and campaigns on hunger, climate change, and conflict, to influence the UK's development agenda and its role on relevant global forums.
To work closely within the International Advocacy team to strengthen our global advocacy and make the most efficient and effective use of cross-organisational resources
To build relationships with country teams to enhance their influencing capabilities and outcomes both at country level and in the UK
To lead on one of Concerns key policy areas; climate change, hunger and conflict.
**UK Advocacy Manager Requirements**:
Essential
At least 3 years' experience in international development, policy, or advocacy with an international or national organisation
Demonstrable skills in advocacy strategy planning and delivery, policy analysis and influencing, ideally in the UK context.
Experience and knowledge of at least one of Concern's key thematic areas; climate change, conflict or hunger (nutrition and food security).
Experience of working for an international development organisation in a policy position.
Strong grasp of the global development and humanitarian landscape.
Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Ability to translate evidence into clear, simple, accessible advocacy outputs.
Sound judgement, time management, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
Active commitment to Concern's mission, values, and to promoting diversity, equity and the interests of marginalised people.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent analytical and research skills.
Willingness to travel overseas when required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, using online platforms like Teams and Zoom
Desirable
Experience working in fragile and conflict affected states and/or humanitarian response, with a focus on nutrition and food security.
Experience of managing one or more line reports
French language skills
Campaigns experience
The successful post holder will be required to complete a criminal records self-declaration form and Basic DBS/AccessNI check.
