**Job summary**:
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
The Army Foundation College Harrogate trains all Junior Soldiers under the age of 18 and prepares them for their subsequent Phase 2 Training. A Junior Soldier will complete either a 6 month or 12-month course within an exciting and challenging course programme, including military skills, education, adventure training and life skills.
We employ a large work force comprising of military staff, contractors and civil servants. Military and civilian personnel create an exciting and diverse work environment, always working to a “One Team” ethos, supporting, and learning from one another.
Military and civilian transport is essential for the effective delivery of the Junior Soldier Course Syllabus. Not a single day of training is undertaken without the support of vehicle transport. This ranges from coaches, vans, minibuses, cars to transport all Junior Soldiers and permanent staff. This also includes safety vehicles and administration vehicles for all stores and ammunition.
This is a challenging, exciting, and very rewarding role and is crucial to the success of the Motor Transport Department.
The position is being advertised at 37 hours per week.
**Job description**:
The role of Motor Transport Driver is to support the training of all Junior Soldier intakes by driving a variety of vehicle platforms held at the Army Foundation College and within licence category held of C+E and Passenger Carrying Vehicle plus Dangerous Goods Vehicle Driver Vocational Training Certificate. The Motor Transport Driver must ensure all details are conducted in a safe and policy compliant manner.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carriage of passengers on authorised details as directed by line management
- Carry out tasks and supervise passengers in conjunction with legislation and Army/Motor Transport standing orders
- Ensure Health and Safety requirements are met when loading and unloading
- Reporting vehicle faults
- Carry out emergency details at short notice
- Drive minor casualties to and from hospital
- Carry out vehicle husbandry and maintenance tasks as detailed by line management
- Completion of all necessary documentation appertaining to driver’s details
- Comply with all drivers’ responsibilities as laid down in policy
- Manage the vehicle yard, ensuring vehicles are handed in clean and ready to use by drivers
**Person specification**:
**Essential**:
- Must hold Category B, B+E, C, D, D1 and D1E Driving Licences
- Previous experience driving coaches with passengers over varying distances and journey times
- Clean driving licence with no points held
- Confidence when engaging with all internal and external stake holders and challenging non-compliance with policy
**Desirable**:
- Background knowledge or experience with Defence transport systems and policy
- GS MOD1 and 2 driving course. If not already held training will be provided
**Licences**:
- Must hold Category B, B+E, C, D, D1 and D1E Driving Licences.
Clean driving licence with no points held.
