Role Profile

The role of a Grounds Operative is to carry out a variety of tasks as assigned by their Manager / Team leader. These will include site wide: driving duties, litter picking, and cleaning along with event/function preparation and presentation. The post holder will also need to promote a high level of customer care to our visitors and support them with general queries.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- The post holder will work predominately within the Grounds Team at London Zoo and carryout all duties in-line with relevant policies and procedures.
- The post holder will be required and be able to drive a variety of vehicles e.g. cars and vans sometimes off site.
- The post holder will be required to interact with visitors by answering questions whilst promoting high levels of customer care.
- The post holder will be required to carry out some lifting, as there is potentially a large amount of manual handling required.
- The post holder may also be asked to carry out some routine health and safety inspections and record their findings.
- To receive and undertake oral or written instructions on what duties they need to complete around the zoo.
- To liaise with their line manager, team leader and/or other departments in relation to any problems.
- To ensure that ZSL’s tools and equipment are kept in good order and report any faulty tools or equipment to their line manager/ team leader.
- To assist, guide or oversee some non-ZSL personnel whilst on site. This may include contractors, inspectors or any other personnel that their line management requires.
- The post holder will need to ensure that waste bins, site signage, picnic and person benches are clean and tidy at all times. This will involve the post holder cleaning these items and drying seating when wet.
- The post holder will need to ensure that the vehicles are clean and tidy at all times - this will involve the post holder washing and cleaning vehicles.
- The post holder will also need to carry out other duties which are outside of their general duties; these will include but are not limited to assisting the logistics team with snow clearing and with assisting setting up events or functions.
- The post holder will have to have good knowledge and understanding of using a pc especially Microsoft Office Software.

Person Specification

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Have GCSE or equivalent literacy and numeracy qualifications.
- Ideally have prior experience in ground management (site and cleaning) processes.
- Previous experience dealing with internal personnel at all levels; the post holder must use tact, diplomacy and promote a high level of customer care and also with visitors and guests on ZSL sites.
- Whilst driving, the driver will need to solve problems independently using past experience and on occasion, help will be sought from the Facilities Department management regarding unusual problems.
