**Description**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
1. To be responsible for the instruction of students in in animal care and animal management
2. Supervision, assessment, evaluation, training and monitoring of students working in in animal care and animal management (in line with awarding body standards)
3. Manage and supervise students to ensure that all areas of the animal unit and animal centre are clean; meeting health and safety requirements.
4. Manage and supervise students to ensure that all equipment within the animal unit and animal centre are, clean meeting health and safety requirements
5. Liaise effectively with relevant lecturers on the progress made by learners within the animal unit and animal centre providing updates on skills development and details of any assessments undertaken
6. Review and develop operating systems in liaison with the Centre Director, Programme Manager and Lecturing staff.
7. In liaison with the animal technician maintain animal food stock levels to ensure all animals have food and water available as stated in the standard operating procedures
8. To monitor all stock relating to animal care and animal management to ensure orders are placed to replenish stock when required.

10. Undertake Health & Safety risk assessments and ensure all working practices are compliant with industry legislation (e.g. COSHH)
11. To ensure that accurate records of animals are kept and the data inputted onto computer systems and paper systems.
12. To follow the current Life Sciences Animal Standard Operating Procedures
13. Assist in the planning of breeding programmes both for sustainability and food sources
14. To maintain all animal areas within Life Sciences to include the internal animal rooms and external enclosures
15. Liaise with corporate facilities where specialist cleaning is required and ensure this is undertaken
16. Ensure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge
17. Any other duties, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required.

Level 2/3 Diploma in Animal Care/Management
Health and Safety Qualification
Desirable Criteria
Teaching Qualification e.g. PTLLS or a willingness to achieve the qualification
