Business Finance Manager Hedging

Centrica Energy Marketing & Trading (EM&T) is the trading arm of Centrica. We trade LNG, gas, power and energy attributes - and connect independent producers, suppliers and corporate off-takers in the wholesale energy markets.

The role of Business Finance Manager (Hedging) will focus on providing support to the Finance Partner of both British Gas Energy and Centrica Business Solutions (CBS) Energy Supply, to create value by improving the quality of decisions and ensure that achosen Business strategy delivers the higher financial benefit at an acceptable level of risk. The role also ensures the provision of robust financial reporting and analysis, planning and forecasts and support for the Financial Control teams.

The Business Finance Manager (Hedging) will work with the commercial and operational teams across EM&T, British Gas and CBS, facilitating interaction and knowledge transfer where required. The role holder will use their expert knowledge to challenge andidentify opportunities for the business.

This is a London based role (close to Marble Arch) with an element of hybrid working (2-3 days in the office per week).

**The Job role**:
Commercial / Business Partnering
- Lead the finance business partnering for the hedge trade book - support in the understanding of performance and providing challenge alongside appropriate financial analysis
- Support the Finance Partners in the downstream businesses (BGE and CBS) and their teams to understand load book performance
- Work to improve understanding of strategies, costs and settlement processes for non-commodity costs to include REGOs, GoO's, ROCs and CfD's
- Work closely with the internal Finance teams (Product Control, Group Technical Accounting, Risk, Financial Control and Business Partners) and Operations (Trading, Commercial, Pricing and Demand Forecasting) to understand and drive improvements in allocationsand the treatment of new and existing treatments with reference to key metrics (profit, balance sheet impact, cashflow and headroom impacts, etc)
- Provide support to the external Auditors regarding existing and new activities, and providing input to technical accounting papers
- Evaluate IFRS implications of proposed portfolio and commercial activity changes on P&L and balance sheet including green accounting (REGOs, VERs, etc)
- Support the business with the completion of investment submissions to the Executive meetings (e.g. UKEMM) and Board
- Understand the strategic impact of decisions and regulatory changes that are being made across the portfolio, in the context of the wider market changes
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective ways of working
- Develop deep understanding of key drivers of costs, cash flows, R&Os with the translation of commercials into financial impacts
- Support the wider finance team and business to drive improvements in performance by providing robust insight and analysis
- Support transformation activities to driver greater understanding, efficiency, and standardisation.

Financial Planning & Analysis
- Leading the FP&A activities for the hedge trade books, including performance management and variance analysis to forecasts
- Supporting the downstream business partnering teams to understand drivers, risks, and opportunities in relation to the activities of the load books
- Working closely to support budget forecasts
- Have a strong understanding of the business working capital utilisation, monitoring positions over key reporting periods, and helping the business to manage their positions accordingly
- Highlight key R&Os and prepare scenario analysis or bespoke reporting/forecast as required.

Management Reporting
- Support the Financial Control teams during the month-end reporting process, providing challenge and rigor to the numbers
- Analysis of the business financial performance vs. latest forecast, including identification of the follow up issues to be investigated
- Liaise with the hedging teams and senior management to support the understanding of the realised P&L and meeting on an on-going basis to monitor and review P&L performance
- Identifying follow up actions to improve performance and deal with all finance relates queries.

**The Person**:

- Previous commodity or hedging experience preferred including:

- Financial management reporting
- Track record of process improvement
- Experience in aspects of risk, control or audit
- Hold an accounting qualification such as ACA, CIMA or similar
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in influencing stakeholders
- Motivated by continuous improvement and experience in delivering high quality outputs
- Ability to identify, assess and analyse organisation wide operational risks and controls
- Ability to identify the implications of issues and the follow up on requirements
- Confidence in raising concerns and responding to challenge
- Keen attention to detail
- Flexibility in determining appropriate response to issues.
