We are looking for an enthusiastic and enthusiastic fluvial geomorphologist to provide advice, guidance and training across the East Midlands.- Your role will have a strong technical and practical focus. You will help to direct and deliver work to protect and restore catchments, rivers and floodplains, making a genuine difference to the environment. Your work with colleagues in flood risk management will ensure that we prevent ecological impacts arising from our own activities and those of third parties that we regulate.
- This is a role that is as much about working with people as it is about working with nature. You will proactively engage staff across the business, communicating with colleagues internally and externally, building trusted networks and strong partnerships, so that you jointly deliver more than one person could on their own.

The team
- The Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team is highly experienced, inclusive and supportive. We work together to integrate habitat and geomorphology advice to improve our rivers.
- We work strategically with other Environment Agency teams to identify and deliver environmental improvements.
- You’ll also be part of a fantastic wider group of geomorphologists: The Environment Agency has a strong and well-connected community of around 35 geomorphologists, who provide outstanding peer support to each other and excellent professional development opportunities.

Experience/skills required
- You will need:
- Enthusiasm and credibility: As a specialist you’ll play a key role, so you’ll be a passionate and confident geomorphology champion.
- Sound technical knowledge: You’ll have a good understanding of fluvial geomorphology and why it matters. You’ll understand climate change. You’ll have a relevant postgraduate degree and some applied experience, and we will support on-the-job learning.
- To be an influential friend: You’ll be able to build trusted working relationships and communicate clearly, to guide and to influence what people do.
- To be open to innovative ways of working, especially new opportunities to work with nature.

You may also have some of the following: Technical geomorphology skills in fieldwork, GIS or environmental modelling; experience or knowledge about current environmental challenges; experience of managing fluvial flood risk; experience of river or floodplain restoration.
- You must have a full driving licence.
