**Role Description**:Kitchen Volunteer

**Address**: Vera House, 58 York Road, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 2BY

**Availability**:Monday to Sunday 5:00pm - 8:00pm (timings can be tweaked if needed)

**Age**:Must be 18+

We are looking for enthusiastic, supportive and committed volunteers, with the ability to work with clients who have varying support needs and sometimes challenging behaviours. We would ideally require a minimum of 1 shift per week.

**About the role**

Kitchen Volunteers will help with the smooth running of the kitchen with support from the Co-ordinator. Duties include:

- Preparation and service of dinner and beverages.
- Clearing up after dinner.

**Skills required**
- An interest in working in a professional kitchen environment.
- Have completed (or willing to complete Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification).
- Excellent team working skills.
- Ability to work autonomously using your own initiative, following training and guidance, accurately tracking all tasks to timely completion.
- An interest in supporting adults experiencing homelessness and related issues.
- Committed to equal opportunities and respectful of other cultures.

**About volunteering with us**

This role description outlines the tasks and responsibilities applicable to this position. It also protects the volunteer from being asked to do tasks they may consider unreasonable.

We recognise that volunteers have different strengths and want to gain different skills.

As a volunteer working within the kitchen you will have the opportunity to develop skills in a professional kitchen environment, as well as gaining new skills and experience in a homelessness charity.

It also provides a social environment to meet other like-minded people, have a chat and gain a sense of satisfaction and community spirit.

**Training and Support**: A structured induction will be provided and training will be available to all volunteers.

**Out of Pocket Expenses**: On request, HARP reimburses volunteers for travel expenses as per the Volunteer Expenses Policy VOL8. Food and beverage expenses for volunteers working four or more hours in one day will also be reimbursed up to £3.50 on request.

Due to the nature of the role (working with vulnerable adults), DBS Disclosure barring checks are sought.
