Northampton, United Kingdom Opus People Solutions Full time

JOB PURPOSE
To work proactively with other services and organisations to ensure that rough sleepers are provided with the help, advice and support they need to come off the streets and that, during their stay in the winter shelter, they receive the support that they need.
KEY RESULT AREAS
To help the Street Service Co-ordinator manage the winter shelter in a way that makes rough
sleeping a rare, brief and non-recurring experience, ending the need for people to sleep rough in West Northamptonshire.
In doing this, the Winter Shelter Support Worker will:
1. Manage the delivery of the role to produce a welcoming environment, leading to the increasing trust of our guests in the shelter provision and the wrap-around service provided.
2. Oversee the use of the kitchen and dining room, ensuring safe food delivery and correct handling of equipment by guests, visitors and staff.
3. Work with the on-site security to quickly and calmly diffuse any tensions and creatively resolve any issues that may arise from time to time.
4. Maintain accurate records of shift activity, including working with security to produce a daily guest temperature log for Covid-19 monitoring purposes, a record of who stayed each night, and a record of who was booked-in but did not stay.
5. Regularly floor walk all areas of the building during the shift to ensure all is calm and quiet, enabling guests to feel safe.
6. Be available at any point during the shift for a guest to be able to talk to you.
7. Undertake thorough cleaning activities, contributing to a Covid-19 free environment as far as possible, and ensure laundry is handled and washed in a safe way.
8. Write a brief summary during each shift, including an overview of your interaction with each guest, so that the team leader of the next shift is able to understand what has happened during your shift, and how best to continue to support each guest.
9. Organise the purchase of basic food for your shift, i.e., bread, milk, tea, coffee, sugar and to claim these back through the finance system in a timely way.
10. Recognise personal and professional boundaries, work in a safe manner and contribute positively to the creation of a safe and healthy working environment, in accordance with the Council's policies and procedures, to ensure compliance with health and safetyrequirements.
11. Ensure that everyone working in the building (including staff, contractors and volunteers) has a safe working environment and is aware of their health and safety obligations.
12. Maintain a good understanding of the Council's policies and procedures for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and alert Children's Services and/or Adult Social Care if it is suspected that a child or vulnerable adult might be being abused, neglectedor harmed.
13. Not to respond to enquiries from any members of the press. In the event a press enquiry is received, this must be forwarded to the Street Service Co-ordinator without delay.
