Organ Builder/cabinet Maker
Martin Goetze and Dominic Gwynn Ltd. are seeking to recruit an organ builder/cabinet maker/musical instrument maker
We are a firm of craftspeople organ builders, established 42 years ago. We are dedicated to the restoration and reconstruction of historic pipe organs, and to the manufacture of new pipe organs. Our current range of work ranges from a Snetzler chamber organ from the 1750s to the routine maintenance and restoration of the 1935 Wurlitzer organ of the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool, with an 18thcentury church organ reconstruction and a Victorian church organ restoration in the middle, alongside many other projects. Most of our work is in the UK, but we have also completed projects in Europe, as well as the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Japan. We take pride in making almost all of the parts of each organ ourselves, in our own workshops in the Harley Studios, at Welbeck, near Worksop, North Nottinghamshire.
We have two positions available, and we are also looking for an apprentice organ builder
Organ building duties will include:
- Manufacture and restoration of building frame, casework, soundboards and windchests, both mechanical and electro-pneumatic
- Metal and wooden pipe manufacture and restoration
- Occasional site work, including dismantling and installation work
Cabinet maker duties will include:
- Manufacture of wooden pipe organ parts to given specification, predominantly from solid timber
- Restoration of wooden organ parts
- Accurate work is essential
We are also seeking an apprentice organ builder, who would take part in a national organ building apprenticeship scheme. More information is available on request.
The position is full-time, 40 hours/week, and normal working hours are from 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday, with a nominally 1-hour lunch break. Overtime is paid at time-and-a-half for hours worked on request above 40 hours. Some site work away from home will be required.
There will be a 3 month probationary period, salary is dependent on experience, which after initial training ranges from £22,256 p/a to £24.960 p/a
This position offers 25 days of holiday per year, plus bank holidays.
