This is an exciting opportunity to join Bangor University’s Security Team and become Team Leader for one of the Day Security Shifts. This is a responsible position that requires the post-holder to demonstrate a professional, mature and flexible outlook. The post-holder will be working as part of a team who will provide the University with security services for its staff, students, visitors and premises.

The Day Security team works a 12-hour shift on a 2 day / 3 day rota over a 7 day period, averaging a c.42 hour week over two weeks. The Team Leader will commence their shift at 7.30am, which includes a handover with the night shift. The main shift commences at 8am. Additionally, there will be a handover with the Night Team Leader at 7.30pm. The extra half hour handover will be paid at overtime rate.

The work of the team is varied from foot and vehicle patrols to fire alarm investigation to emergency response and initial incident management and escalation. There will be regular liaison with University staff and students, and involvement in key university events such as Open Days, Graduation and the new intake of residential students at the start of the academic year.

Whilst this is a vibrant and responsive role, the Shift Team Leader will be very organised and expected to undertake a range of administrative tasks related to their shift. They will manage staff cover and staff leave, prioritise shift duties and tasks, oversee the work of their team and its service delivery, and follow-up on actions and initiatives.

The ability to speak Welsh confidently to carry out certain tasks is essential for this post e.g speaking to staff and students, answering phone calls, dealing with urgent enquiries in Welsh.

This role will be located primarily on campus at Bangor.

Overview

Purpose of the Job

To lead and guide a shift of Security Officers and co-ordinate, prioritise and supervise their duties, activities, actions and responses to protect staff, students, visitors and the University estate.

Main

**Responsibilities**:

- Appraise the Management Team & Team Leader colleagues of any issues, incidents or concerns, ensuring the flow and dissemination of relevant, accurate information between staff on the shift, the Team Leaders and management;- Efficiently and effectively operate the control room during the shift, and lead and motivate the staff; Be responsible for the organisation, deployment and supervision of the shift; co-ordinate and prioritise tasks & duties, relay requirements effectively and oversee the work of the team;- Assess a range of situations calmly to determine the appropriate course of action (including when to seek advice and when to escalate) and the involvement of the team and the roles to be undertaken;-
- Proactively engage in the shift handover, by providing a detailed outgoing shift handover report for the incoming shift;- Be a point of contact for a range of enquiries and calls for assistance, possibly the_ first point of contact_ in an emergency situation and potentially the _first on scene_ in an incident;- Act as a First Aider in accordance with University procedures;- Provide initial incident management, make an assessment on the incident level in line with University guidance, formally escalate if required and provide an effective handover as appropriate;- Use IT systems and equipment to accurately and appropriately log / record actions a
