**About us**:
Avencia consulting is hiring on behalf of a specialist insurer, based in London. We're seeking a nearly or newly qualified reserving actuary to join the analytics function.

This role offers an excellent step away from traditional reserving, and will put the actuaries skills to use in more of an advisory/business partnering position - helping the wider business understand their results through active portfolio management.

**The role**:
1. To be an integral member of the Actuarial Analytics function with particular attention to profitability analysis, portfolio management and performance monitoring. To ensure that the management of the company and other stakeholders receive timely and comprehensive MI.

2. Support the company in our ambition to provide market leading Actuarial Analytics and control of our business. In particular, playing a key role in the development of insightful MI to support business steering including leading various related projects.

3. To support the Analytics Manager in developing the objectives for the team and play an active role in embedding these objectives.

4. Support the production and delivery of relevant Actuarial systems, projects and activities in line with the Company’s strategy and business plan.

**Key accountabilities**:
1. **Actuarial**
- ** **Responsible for performance review analysis for all allocated lines of Delegated Authority and Single Risk business, including granular assessment of best estimate loss ratios, communication of results to key stakeholders and ensuring that all appropriate documentation and audit trail is in place.
- Active portfolio management through thorough investigations of key performance drivers including discussions with stakeholders in order to contribute towards profitability goals and strategies.
- Develop and maintain data processes and performance review models within the branch and with collaboration with head-office.
- Establish and maintain a suite of analytical reports in order to provide insightful MI and performance monitoring capabilities to the business.
- Provide actuarial advice, recommendations and solutions to colleagues for projects that will assist in implementing the business strategy.

**2. **Relationship Management**
- Build strong and effective relationships within the business, encouraging cross Company team working to facilitate effective commercial underwriting decisions.

**3. **Compliance and Conduct**
- Maintain an understanding of and comply with all relevant FCA / PRA / Company regulatory requirements and other relevant regulatory requirements.

**4. **Reporting**
- Ensure appropriate documentation is completed for allocated work with the necessary commentary, insights and findings in line with the businesses policies and procedures, and actuarial best practice.

**5. **Leadership and Team Performance**
- Develop and enhance the Actuarial team through acquiring technical knowledge, and mentoring/coaching more junior members of the team where needed.

**6. **Process Improvement**
- Identify and enhance the quality and value of processes across the Finance and Operations function.

**Skills & experience**:

- IFoA nearly / newly qualified or equivalent.
- At least 4 years’ experience of general insurance reserving, ideally commercial lines.
- Extensive and varied knowledge of actuarial best practice and market standards in reserving and analytics.
- Experience of MI production
- Experienced user in software relevant to actuarial analyses (e.g. ResQ, SAS, SQL, Python)
