Gardening Volunteer

We are a busy and caring team supporting people with learning disabilities. We have a courtyard garden that needs maintaining. We are looking for some help to make it a lovely space that can be used all year round.

As a volunteer, you wouldn't need to be an expert gardener, but you will need some gardening experience and be able to work independently to keep the garden tidy.

**As a volunteer you could be doing some of the below**:

- Pruning and cutting back shrubs
- Creating flower beds
- Cutting the grass, weeding, and potting planters
- Having conversations around the next project the people we support would like to see in their gardens
- Supporting someone to the local garden centre to gather ideas and seeds / plants for the garden

**As a Gardening Volunteer you will be**:

- Friendly and Approachable
- Reliable, Kind and Patient
- A good communicator (including listener)
- Be able to work alone and with others
- Willing to volunteer within guidelines and to take direction where necessary
- Accepting of others who might be different to yourself

**As a Mencap volunteer you will**:

- Make new friends
- Agreed out of pocket expenses to be paid (eg. travel)
- Full Training and support
- Volunteer alongside experienced care professionals
- A chance to give back your local community
