Grounds Maintenance Operative

You will be a member of a small team of Estates Grounds and Gardens operatives, providing a cost-effective maintenance and repair service to all to the Trust Estate.

**Some of your Day-to-Day Duties will include**:
Supporting the lead grounds person in delivering a safe, effective and quality grounds maintenance service

Regular inspection of landscaping, footpaths and trees across Trust sites

Maintaining the sites to a high standard, ensuring they are safe for Patients, visitors and staff.

Develop, maintain and nurture positive working relationships with managers, colleagues, contractors and trust wide service users.

Assist and support the Lead Grounds Maintenance Operative /Maintenance Manager/Building Officer during the course of day to day duties.

Provide support to Trust staff, managers and colleagues to ensure compliance with all safety legislation, standards and procedures.

Respond to and liaise with members of the Trust staff who request assistance.

Undertake and assist with operational tasks within the waste recycling complex as and when required.

Liaise with the lead Grounds Maintenance Operative / Maintenance Manager / Building Manager / (Duty Manager on call/Directorate Managers) regarding grounds related issues.

Maintain stock levels for spares and equipment and to request in writing the supply of goods and/or services with reference to manufacturers manuals etc.

Identify challenges with the environment, buildings or equipment and take the appropriate action to resolve.

Carry out monitoring and maintenance effectively, in a way which minimises risk to self, others and the work environment, and complies with relevant legislation, policies and procedures, and any relevant service agreements/contracts.

Be safe and competent in the use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.

Be conversant with current legislation, guidance and manufacturers recommendations specific to grounds and gardens, equipment, machinery and chemicals.

Correctly follow routine maintenance schedules and procedures for the grounds and gardens, vehicles and equipment.

Ability to identify simple faults with equipment & vehicles, and takes appropriate action to remedy them raising any issues with the supervisor.

Safely and correctly prepares, cleans, uses and stores the equipment, tools and materials.

Prepares equipment for the particular transport activity to be undertaken.

Identifies any potential risk involved in the transportation and acts in ways that minimise risks.

Transports people and/or items safely and to time consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.

Holds a valid current driving license and can safely and legally drive the Trusts vehicle fleet (Including the towing of trailers) as and when required.

Undertakes all grounds maintenance work both hard and soft including design, planning and construction of new and renovated areas, rockeries, footpaths, planting schemes. These include mowing, pruning, weeding, flagging, kerbing, repairs to tarmac, concreting, block paving, fences, walls, plan and re-lay drains, clean and repair gullies, gutters.

Keeps the sites tidy and generally free from the accumulation of litter.

Inspects landscaping, footpaths and trees on a weekly basis to identify defective or dangerous areas, and then rectifies faults.

Maintains upkeep of floral arrangements in the internal areas of the main hospitals

Cleans and restores equipment and work areas, leaving them in a suitable condition for future use.

Undertakes annual pesticide spraying in accordance with statutory
guidance and regulations.
