Lordsbrook Aspire is a semi independent provider based in Essex. Our placements are located mainly in Essex with the aim to expand to other counties in the near future.
Our support services are primarily for young people, aged 16-25 years old both male and female. We specialise in providing a combination of 24-hour shared and stand-alone placements with a comprehensive professional support service. We offer both short and long term support and emergency placements
**Job description**
Lordsbrook Aspire takes young people such as care leavers, unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children and graduates them through our Housing and Support schemes into independent, unsupported accommodation to lead their independent lives. At Lordsbrook Aspire we believe in promoting the well being of all our young people to achieve their full potential in life to have s successful independent adults.
Therefore a successful applicant will be committed to providing an excellent level of support to our young people, and be enthusiastic in approach, assertive in difficult situations and have great interpersonal skills.
**NEEDED FOR THIS ROLE**:
- A good understanding of key working vulnerable young adults / Looked after children
- Good knowledge and experience of dealing with challenging behaviour
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Ability to communicate on a number of levels ( young people, professionals, staff )
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- **At least NVQ Level 3** in Children and Young Peoples Workforce or a Diploma in Youth Work or **equivalent**:
- **Safeguarding training** ( at least Level 2 ) or complete this in Induction stage
- DBS certificate (on update service / or willing to have new fully enhanced DBS check )
- A full driving licence and own transport would also be ideal although this is not a specification for the job
- You will be committed to providing an excellent level of care for our young people, enthusiastic in your approach, assertive in difficult situations and have great interpersonal skills.
1) Direct work with young people - that is key working and generally taking an active part in providing support on a shift work basis.
2) Contact and dialogue with Social Services personnel and outside agencies who have an involvement in Lordsbrook Aspire, or interest in its young people. 3) General - that is taking responsibility for the upkeep of the establishment with regard to cleanliness, health and safety and primary support duties, as well as making autonomous decisions about individual young people’s requests and behaviour whilst on shift.
- 4) Administrative work
- **Professional Care**:To promote the development of the young people assisting them to move on to independent living.
- To protect young people from threats to their health, welfare and development, both from inside and outside the unit.
- To ensure that the home environment is appropriate and sensitive to the needs of the young people living there.
- To ensure that key stages in the stay of young people such as admission and discharge are properly managed and reflect decisions recorded in care plans.
- To ensure that young people facing particular crises and stresses are offered appropriate additional support and to ensure that staff are supported in dealing with this work.
- To participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of individual care plans.
- To develop and maintain good working relationships with parents and other family members where appropriate, social workers, education and career staff and other professionals with a concern for the young people’s needs, such as general practitioners or psychologists.
- To ensure that specific needs are met where appropriate such as dietary advice, religious observance and culturally significant activities
- To ensure that young people carry as much responsibility for their own lives as they can reasonably and demonstrably be expected to carry, keeping them informed of their circumstances and rights, involving them in planning their lives, supporting them and helping them towards taking greater control and responsibility.
- To ensure compliance with the Children Act 2000 and associated regulations, including where appropriate the Children’s Homes Regulations (1991), any recommendations outlined by the Social Services Inspectorate, and appropriate housing legislation.
- To ensure Lordsbrook Aspire safeguarding practice and policy is maintained and adhered to.
- To provide after care support as appropriate when a young person moves onto independent living **Household Responsibilities**:
- To share in the practical activities necessary to maintain the unit (this includes cleaning when necessary) set high standards in homemaking, assisting young people with key skills for independent living (e.g. hygiene / cooking)
- To care for the fabric, equipment and overall environment
