Spencer Clarke Group are working alongside a local authority based in Croydon to appoint a talented **Mechanical Contracts Manager **on a contract basis.
As a **Mechanical Contracts Manager **, you deliver a customer-oriented programme of mechanical engineering improvements, major repairs and cyclical maintenance to Council tenants and leaseholders in the Borough, ensuring value for money andperformance against targets. To ensure the execution of the works complies with Statutory requirements, Council Standing Orders, Health and Safety requirements, and pursues the Council’s Environmental policies for saving energy and reducing greenhouse gasemissions.To provide professional advice in the mechanical discipline for the Service
**About the role:
- Responsible for the delivery of the programmed mechanical engineering repair, improvement and cyclical maintenance service.
- Contribute significantly to the planning of the annual works programme of mechanical and engineering works.
- Liaise with the Asset Management Team (AMT).
- Ensure that optimum use is made of staff resources in the team.
- Ensure that programmed mechanical works are designed and specified in accordance with the Building Services ProgrammeManager’s and the Council’s instruction in order to achieve value for money and agreed targets, taking full account of the needs of tenantsand leaseholders. In relation to schools, this may include initial survey and site assessment, planning and technical research as necessary, preparation of drawings and sketches, making calculations, and preparing the specification documents for tender.
- To be responsible for ensuring programmed mechanical works are supervised and delivered in accordance with theBuilding Services Programme Manager’s and the Council’s instruction in order to achieve value for money and agreed project targets, taking fullaccount of the needs of tenants and leaseholders.
- Provide technical support and professional advice and assistance on mechanical engineering services to Contracts and Project Officers, surveyors and other officers of the department and related matters of concern to the Council's tenants and leaseholdersare addressed. In addition to provide support and advice to other departments and organisations as appropriate.
- To be responsible for the technical element of the mechanical engineering responsive repairs service.
- Identify trends in expenditure and technical issues
- Responsible for the delivery of a professional mechanical engineering services programme by effective management of engineering contracts, processes, partners and contractors.
- Deliver programmed mechanical engineering services ensuring that the specification and contract conditions are fulfilled. Prepare, or ensure that designs and specifications are prepared to achieve the required quality; health and safety and ongoing maintenanceand environmental objectives, and monitor project progress against targets.
- Deliver programmed mechanical engineering services ensuring that the projects are carried out on site in accordance with the contract documentation. Monitor progress and quality of the works and ensure compliance with the specification and contract conditionsand that the work is completed to time.
- Build close working relationships with long term partners and contractors to ensure mechanical issues are fully understood and problems resolved and objectives met..
- Act as a working engineer on own projects as required by the programme and to ensure the team’s targets are met, reporting progress and issues to the Building Services Programme Manager
**About you:
- A recognised mechanical engineering services qualification. E.g. City & Guilds, HNC, HND or similar
- A sound knowledge of the statutory and contract law framework within which a housing technical organisation works.
- A sound knowledge of current and appropriate legislation with regard to mechanical works and health and safety, specification writing, design, forms of contract and contract procedures
- Extensive experience in the provision of mechanical services.
- Extensive experience of mechanical housing maintenance and improvement works.
- Extensive experience of dealing with members of the public.
- Significant experience of managing and supervising contracts.
- Experience of using Microsoft office and housing related data bases.
**What’s on offer:
- Contract role
- Monday to Friday (36 hours per week)
- £350 to £400 per day (Negotiable DOE)
